Has anyone had any experience with Wanda Ag tires?  I know that the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten, but these are less than half the price of Carlisle's.

I can't speak for the AGs but I've seen the turfs. 

They seemed OK except that the rubber aged faster than I thought it should have. 

Really though... half price is a huge difference.  

 

The BKT TR315 Trenchers I just got look good too. 

Those are available from "simpletire" for around the same as the Wandas.

I saw the Trenchers and wondered about them, too.  How do they compare to Carlisle's, width-wise?  That's what is keeping me from buying something, although narrower would be better in snow.  Also, 4 or 6 ply?  The weight rating should be fine on both, I would expect.

Of course, I have not measured my rims yet, so I guess I'm putting the cart before the horse.

Should I decide to buy another set of rims, what will fit my 1-0440?

I can't make an accurate assessment yet as I haven't mounted the BKTs. 

They measure nearly what the Carlisle Tru Powers do that are on my 1974 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse, and the BKTs are empty. 

They're a 20 lb rating so they'll definitely grow when filled.  

Both are listed in this thread above somewhere.

But the reality is that a wider tire can hold more fluid,  thus is heavier, so you get better traction.

The 10.5 tires fit just fine on stock width mid 70s 7.5 inch rims. 

That's what mine are on.

I tried to get an idea of rim width with tires mounted and came up with an estimate of 7.75 to 8.75, so 7.50 sounds reasonable, And I have no reason to believe that the wheels have been changed on this.

So I guess I'll decide soon, before the next snowstorm.  If I do buy the Wandas, I'll get photos & measurements.

Last thing I need to do is find a source for Rimguard.  I can't find anyone local that has it, not an online source.  This is farm country, it's nuts!

Call Rimguard company.  They'll help. 

Otherwise call the local tractor dealers.

I had sticker shock (THIS time) for the lifetime supporter, so I renewed for 2 years. 😊

 

I decided to buy the BKT TR315 Trencher Lugs after reading reviews for the Wandas.  Several people received the Wandas with cuts due to poor packaging.  Also, more than one person referred to them as "cheap", one person called them "junk", and one person said the lugs were "shallow".

I received the tires and found a Rimguard dealer.  I'm just going to pay to have them mounted & filled.

 

Although I presume they will know, what tire valves do I need?

 

Also, I'm guessing I should get the front tires filled too?

 

Lastly, Rimguard estimates $6 to $10 per gallon.  Does this sound accurate from your experience?

The dealer will know. Get the recommendation from Rimguard. If the dealer says otherwise or doesn't know, refuse service.

About right. Last I bought it was about $5/gallon. That was 2 years ago and at wholesale.

I'm not sure how to determine what size they actually are, as I already have mine mounted on 8.50 rims.

I've mounted plenty of tires in my day and I can tell you - you won't get the 8.50 Deestones to seal without a tube because they are too narrow. However, with a tube they seem satisfactory for my needs.

 

Knowing what I know now, I probably would have went with the 10.50s

I doubt I'll be swapping them back on, especially after filling the new AGs with Rimguard.

Used tires are a crap shoot, if a tire is in mint condition with no rust stuck on the beads, no repairs, no dry checking...id consider selling them for $35-$45ea...but I normally have 1 tire thats not perfect and can the pair.  You can get new ones for about $90 shipped in that size and brand, or about $70 shipped in other brands.
