Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #1 Posted October 22, 2023 Part of a restoration or a customization or a modification just might include tires right? One of our members @sjoemie himself suggested we set up a dedicated area for tire info similar to the one we have dedicated for paint info. Not trying to start a huge tire discussion but a place to go and read real specs on a particular tire. Example post would be: a/ You post a tire you purchased. b/ You post up its actual size after being mounted and what size wheel it’s on. c/ How many plies? Does it ride soft/hard? d/ Obviously we want a picture or three . e/ If bought new share where bought and about what they cost. f/ Give us your honest opinion. Like em ?Hate em ? Indifferent ? g/ If you went with a different size than stock was there any clearance issues? Manufacturers info is great but it can be misleading and sometimes not factual. Face it, they just want to sell tires and will say whatever they must to promote their product. This will provide a place to get real world info on tires from our forum members to help you make a decision before you buy. I’m going to pin this so it isn’t lost as I don’t expect it to be posted to daily. 6 7
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #2 Posted October 22, 2023 I’ll go first. These are Carlisle All-Trails. One is 23x8 and the other is 23x10.5. They do not offer a 9 or 9.5 wide tire. Can’t really comment on todays cost as I bought the 10.5’s many many years ago online for about $80 each. The 8.0’s came on a machine C-100 I bought as a parts machine. The brand new rear Carlisle’s were what caught my eye. Excellent traction! They do not shred my lawn unless I spin them. They are both a 4 ply tire so just a bit stiffer than a 2 ply. I feel that less plies equal better traction. Height: I measured them with 6.5 pounds in the narrow ones and 4.5 in the wide ones. Narrows are 22.5” and the wides are 22” tall. This measurement was taken sitting in the pavement with all the tractor weight on them plus the wide ones have 75#’s of cast iron on each wheel. Narrows are mounted on standard 7” wheels and the wide ones are on 8.5” wheels I love these and would recommend them to anyone wanting better traction than turfs and something less aggressive than AG’s. Edit: forgot about width. The 8.0’s are actually more like 8.5” wide. Again, height and width are affected by the wheel used. 6
c-series don 8,655 #3 Posted October 22, 2023 Okay I’ll go second, and say that Work Horse looks pretty bad ass with those 23X10.50-12’s !!! 2
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #4 Posted October 22, 2023 These fronts are JOURNEYS and are 16x6.5x8’s. Came on a 315-8 I purchased a couple years back. Didn’t think I would like them at first being that they are a “smooth” tire but I have really grown to like them. Disclaimer: I have only mowed with these and not tried to plow snow so I can’t vouch for their winter performance. They are a 10 ply tire but aren’t rock solid like I expected running 14.5 psi. Height came in at 15.75 sitting in the pavement with the full weight on the tractor. I suspect all tires are measured without the vehicles weight so all my tires are coming in under the advertised height. Edit: Forgot about width. These came in right at 6.5”. 4
Sailman 1,291 #5 Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) Let me make a slight "high jack" from this thread...but it is about tires! Will an 18 x 9.50 - 8 tire fit on a C series tractor and 416-8 or is it too wide for the stock front rims? How about a 20 x 10 - 8? Got an opportunity to purchase these at reasonable price local but need advice on whether either will work or not. Thanks! Older C series with the narrower fronts will not. 20x10-8? Maybe on the wide wheels, but it will be hard without tubes.
kpinnc 11,877 #7 Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) 2 hours ago, Sailman said: Will an 18 x 9.50 - 8 tire fit on a C series Just to tie this into the thread- the tires below are NHS 16x7.50-8. They measure exactly 16 inches tall, and just over 7 inches wide. About 7 and 1/4 is closer to the actual. So 18x9.50 are only an inch wider each side of the rim (assuming the tire actually measure as it should), so you should have no problems. AlexR 597 #14 Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) Alright I guess I will do the Deestone AG and tri rib run down. I have had these tires for 4-5 years now and they all still hold air haven't had any punctures or leaks. Rears are 23x10.5-12 4ply on 7" wide rims and yes they do run small.. quite small they really are only about 8 1/2" wide and 22 and maybe 1/4" high. I was aware they ran small which is why I went with the 10.5. It is a softer rubber and as you can see in the photos it's got some cuts in the rubber probably from dirt plowing. I had bought them on tires-easy.com and the current price is $77.03ea, however those are a load C 6ply. I am happy with them though they do provide the traction I need. Fronts are 4.00-8 4ply tri-ribs on 4" wide rims they are 16" tall and its 3 1/2" from outside rib to outside rib. They look great, provide the typical tri-rib traction when turning. I also bought them on tires-easy and they are currently $31.17ea on there. Edited November 15, 2023 by AlexR 6
Pullstart 62,772 #15 Posted November 15, 2023 I’ve got the same setup as @AlexR but on my 502, since 2013-15 or so with the tri-ribs and 2017 or so on the 23x10.50-12s. Other than running small, they are perfect to me! The fronts are tubed and fluid filled. They are starting to look like they could afford a recharge. I haven’t put anything air or fluid in them since filling. The rears are air filled still and have never needed anything. 3 2
953 nut 55,043 #16 Posted November 16, 2023 I purchased a set of Power King tires for the A-60 from GIGA tires and was pleased with the quality and service. I had priced similar tires from some Ebay sellers the offer "FREE SHIPPING" and found that the delivered price was about the same or less from GIGA. They are a good heavy duty tire and well priced. https://www.giga-tires.com/15-6.00-6/power-king-tires/turf/tirecode/LWW25 3

I bought them because we've used them at work on the off-road forklifts and have good success. B). Measured height is 22". Measured width is just a hair over 10". It's important to remember these are fluid filled ONLY. I have NO AIR PRESSURE in these. If I did put air pressure in I'm quite sure they'd be larger in both width and diameter. I've not measured the wheel width. I'd say they're an 8.5 wide set. C). 4 ply. I'd say these are on the stiff side for a Garden Tractor tire but they are commercial grade after all. D). Pics below. E). I bought them new but it's been several years. F). Opinion. I've been absolutely impressed with these since before I owned any. Traction is excellent on all terrain types. We use these on rough gravel, wet and dry forest ground, a little on grass. 2-link or 4-link chains will set down in between the tread bars with a little work lining them up. I'd highly recommend anyone purchasing these. G). As to sizing, I've had these mounted on several different tractors. '74 B80, 1267, '74 C160-8. All were fine for clearance. I don't know or care, but these might dig in too much for some people, leaving some damage to lawn. g/ GUESSING stock rims, stock size @16x6.50-8, no known clearance issues. These are nice looking and cheap. That checks all the boxes for me. 2 ply (bias plied), which might make for a bit easier mounting, but slightly less durable. If doing hard off-road trails, I might look for 4 or 6 plies for more puncture resistance. For now she's a yard goat and these will be fine. IMG_5410.MOV *Rolling Radius is measured from the ground she sits on to about the center of axle. Old eyes + tape measure = take this with a grain of salt.
