what is your favorite tractor and why?

i was curious what some is your faorate tractors. it does not matter if you won it or not my fovrat eone i own is my 701 it is a good tractor. and a tractor that i would like to own is a d-180 cause they look reallt beefy and i would like to won that or any RJ

Like most of all of them but,

I like the 70's to 80's stuff before the metal got thin and powder coated. That long heavy gauge hood on the C's and B's especially.

As far as doing work, the xi units are the boss. lots of power, comfortable etc.

my 1979 c-141 gear drive

 

Its old, paint is pretty much gone, but its just a mule.

 

That 14 kohler runs like a top, no smoke, brand new belt on the transmission and HDAP tires with wheel weights

 

It will pull, push, drag, haul etc anything i need it to.

 

Everytime i use it, im shocked at what these old machine are capable off.

 

I like the hydro units for convenience, but these gear drive machines are just brutes!

 

Im trying to pick up a c-160 hydro from a guy. If that tractor purchase comes thru, that may take top spot. 16hp kohler with hydro drive and lift, bigger c frame

 

 

I do love my workhorse gt1800, and the 416/520 when the onans are running good

I always enjoy these discussions.

 

I find it very interesting to see the varying answers and why.....

 

 

In my household there is myself, and Trina.

We both like  Wheelhorse as a brand for practicality reasons.

Rugged. Dependable. Easily repaired and maintained.

 

Trina prefers the aesthetics of the 1965 to 1969 smaller square hood. She also likes them for practicality reasons. 

Short frames for good maneuverability and tight steering.

All five of hers have 10 HP or smaller engines so they use very little fuel in comparison to my larger tractors.

 

My favorites for looks are the 1970 to 1977 series with the larger square hood and angled type steering tower.

 

I like those for practicality as well but for different reasons than Trina.

I move heavier loads, push a larger snow plow. 

I appreciate the longer wheelbase, more power, and much heavier machines.

     Let me think about that for a while, might ba the 953,  but which one?     

I do have several other models of Wheel Horse Tractors and each has a place in my heart. Hate to make a "favorite" decision because they are all great.

Well... and you are a larger framed bear than BBT  I like most.  I have plenty of workers in plenty of brands. I would like an older pull start to rebuild.  Doesn't exist round these parts.

I like all my different colored tractors, each for its special reason.

 But….What can I say. @953 nut s herd just nails it for me. The big wheel 953,s and his rugged GT14 with loader.  I guess it’s fun to drool about others tractors. 
Isn’t there some commandment about coveting thy neighbors goods!!

My C160 is certainly my favorite WH that I own

 

The steam tractors massive size and musical sounds are just magical for me. 

The turquoise Panzers are my wife’s favorite. 

Of course my Oliver2-44 is just large tractor favorite. It’s just a lumbering brute of a worker and sips diesel

I only have room for and maintain 2 horses.  I would take the C-120 all day over the GT-14.  Both great.  One is just way easier to wrench on and significantly more reliable.

My 502 is my favorite, because it was my first mainly.  It’s also an amazing worker, with all the modifications I’ve done to it.  It’s a one pull wonder too!

Hard to beat a 63 or 64 Round Hood with a later 6 or 8 speed added. (Kevin's 502 has a later frame although it is a 62)

My favorite workers are my 854 8 speed and it larger cousin, the C81. Both are 8 hp K181's.

Plus those round hoods look so dang cool doing the work!  With a front hanging weight and loaded front tires, my 502 is basically a short frame C-81 but @Pullstart

My 417-8 is the cleanest one I have, the C-175 with a M18 transplant is the brute of the herd. I like the 312-8 Classic for gas economy

As with many folks, my first has to be my favorite- even though it isn't the same as it was when I first got it.

 

It has always been my most dependable and hardest worker. The 310-8 is the one.

 

Now it's technically a mutt, as it has been repowered, and has the front axle from a 520, and a heavy 8-speed, as many other mods. It was restored 20+ years ago, and modded many times since.

My modified C-120/180  I bought it new 46 years ago. Every bearing has been replaces and bushing installed where there were none  Heavy duty front wheels and axles, heims joint tire rods, frame brace and receiver hitch. Thoes decals are original.

If I could only keep one, it would be the 312 Magnum with the Eaton 1100 hydro with foot control.    A cool running fuel sipper that can handle a 48" deck, a 48" snow plow, and even a dual stage blower.

wow, that is some nice tractors i love a good round hood also.i own a couple colors of tractors i like my wheel horse 701 the best out of all of them. i have a jhon deere 112 round fender  i like that tractor but it is not the origonal engine. i have a stx-38 that i got for free. and i have a wheel horse 856 and 701. my 856 did run but i am restoring it now. but i like some of thoes wheel horses like some of the d-series that look really big and stocky. like really heavyduty. there are some nice tractors on here.i would like to personally have some of the tractors that you guys have i saw @ri702bill has a panzer i would like to have a panzer also some day i will have some more room soon so i will get another tractor or two. if i could find a decent price on one like a panzer or a round hood. thanks for posting- Keaton

If I had to get rid of mine it I would keep my C-145 it’s a great tractor over all with a Eaton 1100 trans and hydraulic lift that makes it easier for me with all the attachments I have for it. It’s got plenty of power and gets the job done.

I have a ’68 Lawn Ranger that is just so cute...

But the one I won’t part with is the 854 I upgraded to a 6-speed LSD.

I have newer workers, C series but as far as my favorite to hop on, start up and toodle around with a yard cart would have to be the 1045. It runs like a champ, starts first roll over everytime. Oh and it looks pretty cool too. Gitty Up!
