The tag is there.    I was able to clean it up enough to read.     The numbers show this to be a 1073 Raider 12 - 8 speed.

If that is a Raider 12 wouldn’t it have a limited slip 6 speed?

How do the front and rear plugs compare after running?  I'd guess that the front one looks 'normal' and the rear onewill look different - which might give you a clue to what is going on.

Any parts interchangeably between that vertical shaft engine with your horizontal shaft engine?

Haven't investigated plus.  really nothing past the temp gun.  Several parts are interchangeable.

I didn’t see any clear pics of the back of the transaxle but a strong hint of LSDs is an extended filler neck at the lower left side rear, instead of a simple plug.

Many of the 6 speeds had round shift knobs too.

But there were LSD 8 speeds and Autos in the early 70s.

This does have a filler neck with dipstick under the seat.

Arnt 6 speed and 8 speed the same thing with someone just not talking about the 2 reverses?

Don is referring to the filler port at the far left rear down near the bottom of the transmission having a slight extension to it.

6 and 8-speed transmissions BOTH have three forward and two reverses.

The difference lies in the location of the brake drum.

Also, I believe ALL 6-speed transmissions had Limited Slip Differential but only the extremely early 8-speeds did.

They have the same basic gearing but they are NOT the same when you are ordering some repair parts.

I don’t have handy a good image from the other angle.

The arrow is pointing to the very small gap between the brake drum/band and the rear axle housing that normally is an indicator of an LSD differential. All but a very few 8-speeds have a larger gap--2+ inches--because the brake drum is on a different shaft out of the transaxle.

This particular 6-speed is a 5060 that does not have a dipstick--another indicator.

Great to see it driving you around!

Was there a crunch noise when you shifted IN to reverse just before the she shed incident?

If so that NEEDS to be eliminated.

Looked like you had the tractor stopped...

Maybe the belt isn't quite stopping completely ceasing motion?

The belt guard guide looks really good.  Maybe needs a tad bit of adjustment??

Only guessing...........

Shift pattern as seated.

3 ---  2

R ---  1

On your max speed.

Stock for a manual transmission tractor is about 6, 6.25 MPH.

10 MPH is a fair increase if considered by percentage.

Like those front tires.  Should turn well. Good grab.

Fuel consumption on my Kohler K341 single cylinder is pretty rugged too.

I can't give you a gallons per hour but I wouldn't be surprised if you used a couple gallons or more per hour.

I don't know if there's an adjustment for that but you DON'T want to run lean.

All of this had to do with :wh: nomenclature.  The early transmissions were 3 speeds.  Then came hi and lo range.  6 speed.  Then came another version of 3 speed plus hi and lo, so 8 speed.  Now, we all understand the 6 and 8 speeds have the same gear ranges, but they have meaning as mentioned above :handgestures-thumbupright:

No crunch but I think it's a panic and if I hit the clutch brake hard enough it pushes the belt passed release to the point it starts spinning again.    I've got a fix for that.

I did the speed test in 2 hi based off your shift pattern.    Shoot I might get up to 12mph.     To be honest I'm fine with this being the top speed.    That's fine for what I'm using this for.

I only about 76% like the rear toolbox but might have found something better.     🤔

Is there any chance you could make a tab to catch the top of the belt as it falls with the clutch pulley?  It might help stop that belt’s movement when you try to shift.  The belt should never be moving still when you attempt to shift.

The belt does stop.    I think I've found this issue.   If I stomp on the brake (emergency lol) the clutch is releasing the belt but goes past, catches the idler, and re engages.    I need to play with clutch to brake ratio adjustment.

Just my back and leg.   I'm more upset about busting the oil pan on the twin.  Pretty sure that'll be impossible to find a replacement for lol

Sore but nothing major.

Picked up some parts.    2 520h a 418-8 snow plow and a brinley 10" plow.     I need to make back 500 bucks quickly on this and need to do some thinking on what to sell and what to keep.   I robbed Peter to pay Paul but the 500 that come from the non tractor fund needs replaces.    The rest my tractor fund can absorb lol  Not keen on running a onan but guess I have 3 now lol.

I have decided to retire this wreck and dedicate it to being a parts machine.

Next project is underway.
