stuppy62 58 #1 Posted October 11, 2023 In the past I have purchased 3 Hydro pedals from Matt's Pedals. Does anyone know Matt and if he's still making these? Otherwise, does anyone know anyone making pedals, I'd like to buy 2. Thanks, Dave
mrc 810 #2 Posted October 11, 2023 i bought several pedal kits myself over the years. last i knew matt moved to florida and his father was going to take over making the kits. have not heard anything more. towards the end matt was only making them in a batch around Christmas time. i do not know of anyone else making the kits. regards mike

Cee245 818 #4 Posted October 12, 2023 (edited) @drjarvisphd121... I am Not sure, but didnt i buy a foot control from you? And your friends made a bunch at one time a few years ago? Maybe i'm making that up? Lol... Anyways, The one i got was prepaid and they made a nice oem? copy i believe. Its kinda similar to the XI set up. Its nice and came with good directions, although i unfortunately lost them. I do like it over the hand control Fwd/Rev although that never really bothered me. It is a nice improvement when using a snow blower for sure! Edited October 12, 2023 by Cee245 Missed info
mrc 810 #5 Posted October 12, 2023 many, many years ago there was a member named DOC from kentucky. he made reproduction foot pedal kits just like wh made back in the day. i don't think he has been on RS for quite some time.

You may be talking about "drjarvisphd121", who said he was considering making another batch. I sent a PM inquiry back in April and didn't get a reply to that, or to the thread he posted on, which was for 417A IIRC. The original thread doesn't seem to exist anymore, was there a purge or something? In any case, it seems he isn't going to do it and FAIK doesn't want to be bothered so I didn't try to pursue it any further. I'd like to have two of them myself, if any of the group would want to undertake such a project (hint, hint).

I have a project tractor, a 417-H that will have some 520-H parts, that I am strongly considering fabbing a foot pedal for. I've been looking at the ones that @Bill D has done, and for my personal use I'm looking at what scrap metal I have around because I don't want to spend much money doing it. But if I had some specific plans to follow, I might be willing to see if I can produce several of them, for one or more of my other tractors and maybe for others here. To make more than one I'd like to have details & measurements to follow, because just making one I'm likely to hack it together using whatever is lying around.... Bill D 1,906 #8 Posted October 12, 2023 I've made two different styles and it's tough to decide which I like better. I'm waiting for a couple of guys from Redsquare to stop by and take them for a test drive to get their opinions. After using the pedal on my 416H to mow last week I may have to make some minor changes as I find the pedal pressure a little heavy especially when going uphill.

Thanks, Dave Not to undermine Matt and his great kits (I have bought 6 of them) but if you can remove one of the kits from a tractor it is not too difficult to copy. If he was still in business I would not even suggest this. Hardest part is the actual pedal but of you can get your hands on a brake pedal from an 8 speed machine you can weld a tab on the bottom for the rod connection and bolt on a piece of angle iron onto the side for the reverse pedal using Matts as a template. This is what I came up with. Reverse pedal is just a piece of angle iron cut away to leave what I wanted then bent to sit how I liked. Rest of the kit is mostly flat bar and angle iron. I duplicated the control rod using 3.8" rod then cutting fine threads on one end with a die for the rod end again using the original Matts rod as a template. I will not disclose any measurements, you must have an original to copy. Edited October 13, 2023 by cleat

stuppy62 58 #11 Posted October 12, 2023 Cleat, that's a good idea that I could do! I wouid have to source 2 of the right pedals. That would be an ambitious project being that I have to remove kit , then put it back on! Thanks, I'll give it some thought, winter project!

I don't have any dimensional drawings, unfortunately, just some pictures and information I've found on this forum.
76c12091520h 3,608 #13 Posted October 12, 2023 If you have access to Facebook, contact Derek Jarvis. @Cee245 is correct when he thought someone was making reproduction foot controls. These are exact copies of the hydro foot controls offered by Wheel Horse. Best foot control available ( my opinion ) . Only makes a few each year , usually in the spring. 2

I don't have FB, but I'd be in for at least two if quantity is a helpful incentive and someone can persuade him to work up a batch.

I don't weld so I had a friend weld the tabs on the bottom for me. He said it was a bit tricky because the pedal is made of cast iron or steel.

I guess if I had a spare right brake pedal I might give it a shot, but I'm worried that I'd be throwing money away if I bought one then tried to weld it. Drifting off topic and don't want to wander too far into the weeds, so I'll just say if it don't work, kick it to the curb.
cleat 5,808 #19 Posted October 13, 2023 Reading this manual that I just found on here of Matt's early kit seems like he used a brake pedal with a bolt on adapter. Wheel Horse Hydro Foot Pedal Instructions V1B.pdf I would stick with the ball bearing on the motion block that Matt switched to later on (likely how your kit is).

So don't they already have a tab, just on the wrong side? Could you cut a piece with a hole big enough to fit over and around the pedal shaft, then bolt and braze it into place so that even if the braze cracks it can't move? So I tried to insert an image I just drew, but it won't let me. Apparently all I can do is attach it.
