dr.mac 0 #1 Posted October 10, 2023 I am sure I have read about this on Red Square but of course cant find it when I need it. 1966 10hp Kohler W.H. engine cranks fine and only produces spark when I let off the switch. Thank all you guys in advance. dr.mac
Pullstart 62,900 #2 Posted October 10, 2023 Have you recently replaced the ignition switch? There may be a short in your original, or you procured the wrong replacement…

953 nut 55,250 #4 Posted October 10, 2023 My thought is that your ignition switch has given up on you. Lowell @wheelhorseman can fix you up with a direct replacement. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/4988-7263-starter-generator-key-switch/
ranger 1,750 #5 Posted October 10, 2023 (edited) Sometimes if your battery is a bit low on charge, you have some bad electrical connections, a failing coil, starter motor etc, the starter whilst turning causes a voltage drop in the ignition circuit which can result in a weak, or no spark. On releasing the key, the coil ‘sees’ a higher voltage and produces a spark good enough to fire the charge in the cylinder.
