Mickwhitt 4,578 #1 Posted October 9, 2023 Mrs W was assisting me this morning, tidying the underfloor storage area. We were moving the usual accumulation of boxes and bags that end up being stored in different places through the year. Somehow she tripped an fell into a rough sawn timber door post, catching her scalp on the sharp corner. When I managed to prise her hands away from her nut I saw quite a nasty split in the skin which bled like a stuck pig. First aid, sympathy and a bit of a talking to for being such a clumsy oaf were my response. It's a better of a cut though and would have looked great on my shaven hairless crust. When i took the camera out she said this better not end up on red square ....

Mickwhitt 4,578 #8 Posted October 9, 2023 Sandra is a nurse, I took the photo so she could see the damage for herself and assess if she needed stitches. Remember, we live in England, with the best health care system in the world. That means we could gave dialled 111 and sought advice from a call handler, who would have said go to hospital to avoid being in trouble if they said otherwise and anything went wrong. If we had gone to hospital we'd have had a wait of up to 8 hours to see a doctor, who would have ordered an xray to check for foreign bodies, which there were not as the wood was splinter free. Then they would have stapled the cut or applied butterfly stitches and advised paracetamol. Sandra decided against going to A&E or ER as you guys know it. She had no concussion or loss of consciousness so she was happy there was no serious injury. One of the reasons our hospitals are so busy is that people go to A&E for the simplest of things that need first aid, not serious medical treatment. The name over the door says it all; ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY most visitors fail to qualify under either. I'm thankful for the NHS but being free it does get horribly abused by people who think they are ill and demand to be treated.
