Recommended Posts

AHS

I got a Wheelhorse for $50!!!!! A B80, its an 8 speed…. so it must a 76 or a 77? 71-08k801 14413 and the number below it is 7094… i think!! All factory wiring and coil. It looks like the PTO seal is bad..oil all over the place! We’ll see once i get it running!! I changed the oil and gas came running out.. cute!! Hopefully clean the carb, set the points and new fuel line/filter.. and it’ll be a runner!!!:)

The 71 prefix indicates it's a 77. 76's and 77's are identical though. The B series and C series Are identical in those two years save for some cosmetic items and HP. Here's my 76 B-80 that I purchased new and still have it. It grew into a "B"-160. :)

I'm really happy to see you got that!

Now that machine can be maintained like it should be and put to work.

You'd really like the little 8 HP engine.

Economical and powerful for its size.

That's a... uhhh... nice seat ((??))

@AHS, the 7094 number in your serial number is the Julian date of manufacture. Meaning your B80 was built on the 94th day of 1977. (Monday April 4, 1977). -JD-

I have one for plow duty. Most the time it just sits in the garage. Like Mike said hard to beat these K181`s.

Ok, I drained the oil…gas in the oil. A lot of gas! The gas tank is completely dry… what if the needle was stuck open and drained into the base? I changed the oil. I cleaned the points and replaced the spark plug and sprayed starting fluid into the carb..and it did run!! Now to take off the carb. I guess i will see what the carb holds!!

Quick rebuild kit in that carb and also check the fuel pump.

I had a 76 B80, mine was for plow duty. It boggles my mind how the K181’s would work!! AND even use such little gas!! I sold the 76 to a friend, he and the tractor only live about a mile from me. I got rid of my 76 in May ‘23 and i got a 77 B80 in October!

I'm with Eric, check that fuel pump. A leaking diaphragm is how gas gets into the crankcase.

Ok. I hate replacing fuel pumps, those cheap Chinese plastic ones!

You can likely rebuild the old metal one

A leaking needle valve in the carby can ruin the crankshaft's day

Note: I have never had a Kohler engine, so as usual, take anything I say with a grain of salt, ya old salt

Glad you gotcha a nice new toy. And, of course:

FLY NAVY!

Nice find and it's always fun for me to find a tractor that needs some TLC to get it running and find and fix all the little issues it may have.   It's what I like to do.  My issues is I never than wanted to sell them I get to attached 😄.  Have fun

I got a decent replacement seat, for my B80, from Northern Tool.  It was $70 I think.

I love my B80 -- fun tractor.  I got mine for about $50, too.  It wasn't running and had a snow blower on it and came with a rotted out mower deck.  I changed the oil, new gas, new plug with proper gap and boom, she fired right up!

Nice and easy to work on.  Good luck with yours!
