AHS 1,440 #1 Posted October 7, 2023 I got a Wheelhorse for $50!!!!! A B80, its an 8 speed…. so it must a 76 or a 77? 71-08k801 14413 and the number below it is 7094… i think!! All factory wiring and coil. It looks like the PTO seal is bad..oil all over the place! We’ll see once i get it running!! I changed the oil and gas came running out.. cute!! Hopefully clean the carb, set the points and new fuel line/filter.. and it’ll be a runner!!! 5
Racinbob 11,056 #2 Posted October 7, 2023 The 71 prefix indicates it's a 77. 76's and 77's are identical though. The B series and C series Are identical in those two years save for some cosmetic items and HP. Here's my 76 B-80 that I purchased new and still have it. It grew into a "B"-160. 1
ebinmaine 67,436 #3 Posted October 7, 2023 I'm really happy to see you got that! Now that machine can be maintained like it should be and put to work. You'd really like the little 8 HP engine. Economical and powerful for its size. That's a... uhhh... nice seat ((??))

J854D 137 #7 Posted October 7, 2023 @AHS, the 7094 number in your serial number is the Julian date of manufacture. Meaning your B80 was built on the 94th day of 1977. (Monday April 4, 1977). -JD-
Retired Wrencher 5,451 #8 Posted October 7, 2023 I have one for plow duty. Most the time it just sits in the garage. Like Mike said hard to beat these K181`s. 1

AHS 1,440 #11 Posted October 7, 2023 Ok, I drained the oil…gas in the oil. A lot of gas! The gas tank is completely dry… what if the needle was stuck open and drained into the base? I changed the oil. I cleaned the points and replaced the spark plug and sprayed starting fluid into the carb..and it did run!! Now to take off the carb. I guess i will see what the carb holds!!

Quick rebuild kit in that carb and also check the fuel pump.

I had a 76 B80, mine was for plow duty. It boggles my mind how the K181’s would work!! AND even use such little gas!! I sold the 76 to a friend, he and the tractor only live about a mile from me. I got rid of my 76 in May ‘23 and i got a 77 B80 in October!
rjg854 11,360 #14 Posted October 7, 2023 I'm with Eric, check that fuel pump. A leaking diaphragm is how gas gets into the crankcase.

Jon Paulsen 290 #17 Posted October 8, 2023 A leaking needle valve in the carby can ruin the crankshaft's day Note: I have never had a Kohler engine, so as usual, take anything I say with a grain of salt, ya old salt Glad you gotcha a nice new toy. And, of course: FLY NAVY!

moe1965 737 #19 Posted October 8, 2023 Nice find and it's always fun for me to find a tractor that needs some TLC to get it running and find and fix all the little issues it may have. It's what I like to do. My issues is I never than wanted to sell them I get to attached 😄. Have fun

It was $70 I think. I love my B80 -- fun tractor. I got mine for about $50, too. It wasn't running and had a snow blower on it and came with a rotted out mower deck. I changed the oil, new gas, new plug with proper gap and boom, she fired right up! Nice and easy to work on. Good luck with yours!
