davem1111 2,030 #1 Posted October 4, 2023 I've seen some tractors with wide seats, where 2 people can sit side-by-side, and I'm wondering what the best approach is for this. First, have you used a seat from a golf cart, something else, or custom built one? Second, I'm wondering if there needs to be reinforcement added rather than just bolting one on the standard seat bracket so it doesn't rock from side-to-side or tilt if one person is (ahem...) heavier than the other. My wife has had a lot of health issues, and has not been able to see much of the property for quite a while, aside from the close parts of the front and back yards. I'd like to be able to take her for rides around the farm on it, and I don't think she wants to ride in the trailer.
Achto 27,609 #2 Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) I ended up wining a D160 at an auction that had side by side seating already set up. The PO built custom fenders & some kind of bucket holders for it. Didn't know what I was going to do with it at first, now Big Betty Baloo is the first one on the trailer when I go to shows. @WHX?? & @Pullstart used a bus seat to make a side by side out of their tractors. Pullstart 62,913 #3 Posted October 4, 2023 Not throwing stones (too hard) but I supported mine a tad better than Uncle Jim did his. I had no rear fender on the tractor, so it was basically a blank slate. I’m sure I could have used 1x1 instead of 2x2 and had just fine results. If only someone had some extra bus seats laying around… 4 2 1

ebinmaine 67,633 #5 Posted October 4, 2023 Some awesome ideas here. A side by side isn't likely a build I'd do but they're very interesting to see!

It looks like you could spare one of those bus seats for a reasonable cost. 1
JoeM 7,874 #8 Posted October 4, 2023 if I told my wife i was building a tractor for her with a wide seat, this is how i think things would end up.

Contact the operator of school busses in your town. Never know, you might get lucky. 5

Hey a show was coming up and she needed a love ride so it was a 5 minute job! Dan's brother has got a two up seat with arm rests I may score. Another simple idea is two solo seats mounted on some sort of bracket. Keep in mind depending on the type of tractor is may be necessary to split the operating duties. A gear jammer the driver can pretty much run the whole show. A hydro since the speed control is on the right the passenger may run that. This may be the tractor I also add a foot pedal motion control to, so that would make it even easier. 1

Well, I think the point is that she may want to sit next to me ("why" might be a valid question... ) so this idea might not be that attractive to her.
WHX?? 48,830 #16 Posted October 5, 2023 Sulkies can be easy to fall off of...just sayin... ask her how she knows... C. Hill has a dandy tho. A tandem for those heavy dates... 3
