Complete C-165 Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Jeff Holobusky

Hello to all!

Here’s my grass cutting 1980 C-165. I restored it about 15 years ago. I am waiting for new carbon fiber decals from Redo Your Horse to complete the look.

I installed the aftermarket Gravely style muffler as recommended from member Brian Koch. No problems there. I took his recommendation on the NAPA by Prime  Lime muffler for quality. It certainly is and fit perfectly on to the 1” pipe nipple (see pics). It’s a big improvement over the pepper shaker.

I like to finish off with a short curved stack on the 1-1/4” outlet. I understand member Jim Kemp does stacks. I can’t message him because I’m a newbie.

Any ideas and help to contact Jim would be appreciated.

Jeff - looks good so far. Consider adding a lower support bracket attached to the motor. If you accidently hit something and it is unsupported, could have bad results.

Pictures of the one I made up on the 854..... I went with all black iron, as heating galvanized parts throws off a noxous odor....

:WRS: A Google search for a 1 1/4" exhaust tip might find you some results.

Pullstart

:text-welcomeconfetti:  I believe you need a certain amount of posts before you can PM.

@Lil’ Pullstart and I have gotten along with using shower handles.  It might be worth checking out your local hardware store for options.

That looks really good. Just enough stack to give the look. Achto send out a request to Jim since I can't message yet. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the tip and contacting Jim for me.  I did search and have a few possibilities. Hoping Jim could put his expertise on it.

Thanks for replying.

Bought that Gravely style muffler from NAPA just before I got on RS. It’s got a 1-1/4” outlet and the 5/16” inlet fit perfect on the 1” nipple pipe.

I’ll be finishing off with the black carbon fiber  vinyl wrap decals from Redo Your Horse

So how about a short turn out that fits on the 1-1/4” outlet. Depending how the decals look, I may paint muffler semi gloss black or silver to cover the ugly welds. They do bulge out a bit.

I am open for suggestions and ideas. What muffler would you have used? I didn’t want anything to high since I use the machine for cutting grass in a not so open neighborhood.

Attaching 2 pics.
