rmaynard 15,434 #1 Posted September 22, 2023 The wife and I are headed out on a road trip in October. We will be driving from Maryland to the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge parkway south to Boone and Ashville NC. Am I going to be close to any of you guys along the way? 1

Last time I was there, there were areas where it covered the roads creating tunnels. 1
Skwerl58 704 #3 Posted September 22, 2023 I am 45 minutes southeast of Mabry's Mill and Rocky Knob in SWVA. The area of 58 near Meadows of Dan off of the parkway has major construction cutting through the mountains and changing the landscape. The parkway at Rocky Knob is one of our favorite areas due to the available picnic areas and great view. If you want to see a beautiful lake drop by Philpott Dam in Henry County, Bassett area. It has an overlook and picnic area where you can view the dam and lake. It also has numerous camping areas and Fairystone State Park is adjoining it. Have a great trip!

When the kids were little (30 years ago) we trailered the entire length of the Skyline and Blue Ridge into the Smokey's. We spent two nights at Fairy Stone and explored the area.

I'll let you know about the kudzu. 1

Skwerl58 704 #11 Posted September 22, 2023 Fairystone state Park has refurbished the cabins and they stay busy. Also some decent hunting in the local state ran game/ hunting area. The Parkway is quite a scenic ride and shows God's handiwork at every turn.

Sailman 1,291 #14 Posted October 16, 2023 Being in Georgia my wife and I and other family have ridden on Harley's from the south / west end of the Blue Ridge Pkwy near Cherokee NC and followed it through most of North Carolina. Hope to one day ride it all the way north. Amazing sights and freedom running the mountain roads! Even in July we had to take our leathers and rain gear. 90+ degrees in the low lands but on the Pkwy you would get it all. October would be fantastic with the leaves turning.
