JanGaLanG 53 #1 Posted September 22, 2023 Bought this little guy the other day and was wondering if somebody could tell me what model it is. Trying to get it put back pretty original for my Grandpa. He will have a blast driving it through the towns parades. 1
kpinnc 12,008 #2 Posted September 22, 2023 Looks like a 60-61 Suburban (400, 500, or 401), but it's missing some things and the hood has been cut quite a bit. Fenders are mounted backwards as well.

So I was rushing to get it put back together and get it in the garage so we could celebrate. Edited September 22, 2023 by JanGaLanG 4

Achto 27,567 #6 Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) Congratulations! on your growing family. Like state above you have a 60 or 61 Suburban. Looks like its had a bit of customizing. Here are a few pics of my 1961 401 Suburban for reference. After I put the lift assembly back on. With the customizing that has been done on your tractor, I might just roll with what you have. Originality is inconsequential, having fun and making memories with your family is what is important. 2
rjg854 11,361 #10 Posted September 22, 2023 The others have you covered, all I'll add is make sure it's mechanically sound, and looks decent. As long as runs well and is safe to drive, enjoy it as it is.

Thanks for the pictures so I have something complete to compare it to. Im not looking to restore it but just have it look pretty nice. I can see now thay I have some tiny wheels compared to what it should have. And I believe I could make some Foot jegs to look like those. Could you tell me what motor origionally came on these? Thanks again and I appreciate all the Congrats from you guys.

I dont really want to put a predator on this thing so I may just put one of my flatheads on it. 1

Did a little work to the engine & now it's pushing about 8.5hp at 3600RPMs. Fun little tractor, had to make a set of wheelie bars to keep it from flipping over backwards when you grab a hand full of throttle. oliver2-44 9,739 #19 Posted September 23, 2023 Just an FYI. As you get familiar with that tractor be abused these are not synchronized transmissions. The transmission pulley needs to stop turning before you can shift. Wheel shouted used their belt guards to funnel slack belt around the engine drive pulley when you stepped on the clutch. The clutch really controls the idler pulley position. Your clone motor will need some belt guides to work with the transmission. 1

It didnt come with the belt guard, I am going to have to make one of those.
Achto 27,567 #21 Posted September 23, 2023 I had to make a belt guard to work with the Predator engine on mine. Also added a belt brake on top of the tension pully to help stop the belt. Then the new guard went through a rusting process so that it would match the rest of the tractor. 6
WHX?? 48,815 #22 Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) Ahh I remember that Dan... wasn't for that and I got your original pulley we'd never met and got married... ... course we also wouldn't be so tractor heavy... Edited September 23, 2023 by WHX?? 3
