Needed and oil filter for a green and yellow machine in the shop for repair. Of course, I did not have the right one. So off to Wally World....No dice. Ended up at a farm store and found one.

An off brand but expensive.

Looked this morning at Napa, cross was 1056, north of $20?

Looked at Wix almost as expensive.

Looked at the jungle site,  less. down to $11 now.

Gzzzzz this is starting to get ridiculous.

That seems to be a never-ending cycle of cost push inflation. The cost of labor, transportation and raw materials will be chasing one another higher and higher until the desire for costly goods wanes and manufacturers cut back on production.

This is nothing new, during the 1970s and very early 1980s our government was on a spending spree which brought on massive price increases.  Since none of the "Rich Men North of Richmond" have a very long memory the same thing is happening today and will continue until a recession ends the demand for overpriced goods.

Chart 1: Inflation as measured by the consumer price index. In January 1965, the percentage change from a year ago in the consumer price index began to rise until it peaked in March 1980 at close to 15 percent. In 1983, the percentage change from a year ago settled back to pre-Great Inflation levels of between 0 to 5 percent. data-image=

Min wage in 1980 was $3.80. Parts guys get $18-25 IF they can find a good one. I think I maxed out at $12. It costs more to make it so it costs more to sell it

My cost on that 1056 is $16.83 List is $35.44

Go back and beat em up

You just ruined my whole day Joe.

My G&Y Z turn needs a oil change & 1056. Briggs 22 hp vertical.

Just for S & Gs gonna call a JD dealer and see what they get for a JD  branded one.

Then go look for that $11 one.

You just had to bring that up didn't you Ed.

Guy posted a want add for the SD cover to make a recycler deck. Hey I got one of those might as well send it.  How does10 clams + shipping sound. Great send her over. Managed to squeeze it in that box. Bulged the box out abit but if it fits it ships right? Yep 17.10 for it. Holy cow I says to the gal the box weights more than the part! Next time we'll see if it was better to ship by weight. Prolly not the case for you a PTO bell is fairly heafty.

Now I'm gonna ruin yer day Joe.

Not only did my travels today take me right by a JD dealer it took me right by a TSC and in for hardware.  Your not gonna like this... PN crossed to this.

Now I don't know how good a filter is but can't be bad as the orange death.

Asked the JD dealer who makes theirs. He didn't know but said they are made to JD specs for what it's worth.

Told him about the  north of 20 at NAPA and he says geez & people complain about JD parts prices!

Back in the day, the Cub Cadet guys would come into the store squawking about a $12 IH. filter. We sold a lot of 1348's Some guys would buy 2 and still have enough for coffee. And that was over 20 years ago.

You have to get the proformer 21348 for the cheap filter  The Gold version 1348 is $8.50

Geezz Sqounky swears by them :teasing-poke: ... or swears at them...

Actuall all I used to use before you guys skooled me. :hide:

So your saying Squonk the JD # crosses to a 1348?

I had the Briggs # but all it crossed to was a 1056. I couldn't get the JD # off till I called the dealer. It was turned to the bottom of the motor. Didn't want to take it off till I had a new one. Quite sure it's the orginal. Pa only had 10 hrs on it when he couldn't operate it any more. Alsheimers is a wicked disease.

What machine/motor were you wrenching on Joe?

Dunno... tossed it when I put a 1056 on the shopping list. I think I got it when ran the Briggs engine #. Was a real common Briggs filter tho. All over the Jungle. I wanted a NAPA or WIX tho since you got me hooked on them. Maybe no more...:)

So ? Mike... why does Napa/Wix have umpteen different filter crosses all at different prices.

Like oil filters for a Onan. Long ones, short ones, hexes on the ends. Oem? Gets to be mind boggling for us simpletons.

Blame it on the OEM'S They will have some minor spec like lets say micron rating. So Wix makes a filter to match. But Wix may already have a filter that is identical in size but maybe a different micron rating that they sell a crap ton of that happens to fit Chrysler products since 1983. So Wix has a cheap version of that Chrysler filter for the Quickie Lube joints, and a Gold version for the pros. The original filter is an oddball that isn't stocked at a store and the price reflects the reason not to stock it.

I found a common Briggs # 492932S

Crosses to a Wix 7035 which is a stubby filter. A 1348 is identical except for the size of the can. 2.3" tall as opposed to 3.4" So if you have the room, use the1348

Lowe's JD L130

I could have used the longer one. but being it was not my machine.....you know the drill

I did read where the JD filter has an internal bypass at I think 4-6 psi pressure dif. The lack of maintenance on the machine indicted that I needed that bypass feature. I figure dirty oil flowing is better than no oil at all.
