Stormin 9,981 #1 Posted September 5, 2023 (edited) Last Friday we went over to youngest daughters for for son-in laws birthday BBQ. While there I spotted a cast iron gutter hopper in a corner of their yard. They have had new modern guttering etc along the front of their Victorian era house. Asked if I could have it. "Worth money", Alan said. "Your not going to charge me for it?", I replied. "Oh take it," he said. "Most likely be lying there for ages." So it came home with us. A cast bird bath did that a rear or so ago. Took me most of yesterday, chipping and scraping, to get the layers of paint off. Then today finished off with abrasive disc on the angle grinderette. Bit of damage on one corner but we have an idea on how to repair that. If it works. Edited September 5, 2023 by Stormin 6

Pullstart 62,834 #11 Posted September 6, 2023 I had to Google this. It improves flow during hard rains? How? Or does it just absorb some influx of flow during hard rains?
Stormin 9,981 #12 Posted September 6, 2023 You tell me. The outlet measures 1-7/8" x 2-7/8".

More like steel. As for being one piece, I think so. Can't make out any joins. It was made by Walter Macfarlane & Co’s Saracen foundry in Glasgow. They manufactured cast iron products that were shipped to India, Japan, Jamaica and more. Google them. Quite interesting.
