Ed Kennell 38,133 #1 Posted August 31, 2023 The recyclers are busy every day. Processing the old chopped sweet corn into fertilizer (goose poop). 4
wh500special 2,170 #2 Posted August 31, 2023 Cobra Chickens! They make quick work of any kind of agricultural debris. They descend by the thousands on the farm field behind my house each fall after the combine is done doing its thing. I remember thirty years ago when I used to travel to southern Illinois to hunt geese because they weren’t as common here. Now they are everywhere and stick around all year never even bothering to migrate. So much open water at housing developments, office parks, and golf courses they don’t have to leave. And it’s warmer in the winter too. And man do they generate the waste faster than xxxx through a goose. Steve

Most of the cities in my area have had to purchase rotary brooms to clean the side walks in the parks daily. 5 hours ago, Ed Kennell said: Processing the old chopped sweet corn into....Goose dinner. WHX?? 48,814 #5 Posted August 31, 2023 I made sloppy goose once and it wasn't greasy but stringy and a bit tough to chew. I don't think I ever had farm raised goose.

oliver2-44 9,729 #7 Posted September 1, 2023 @Ed Kennell at least you recyclers are in the field. These guys love our yards every time we water the grass. I guess earth worms or bugs come to the surface with the watering. They are raising on the lakes here and not migrating. I have to hose down the dock and sidewalk every weekend before the grandkids come. No hunting allowed on the lakes so there’s just more and more of them. My dog even got tired of chasing them off. 2

My brother used short pieces (10" to 15") of 1/2" green garden hose laying around the yard to frighten the geese. Seems like they thought the hoses were snakes and didn't want to mess with them.
CCW 1,293 #9 Posted September 1, 2023 Filthy creatures that make a mess of the golf course. And people complain about dogs, oh don't hurt the honkers.

We take the grandkids out later Sunday afternoon after the weekenders are heading home. It sounded like a distant buzz this afternoon. No Labor Day boating for me!
