ohiofarmer 3,276 #1 Posted August 27, 2023 Well I haven't been around lately I have a nasty blood infection that required back surgery. Blood infections are not of the blood but there is a foreign body which on my case was in the spine. I went first to a decent second tier rated hospital and then was transferred to the central place with a helicopter. Absolutely critical to my survival was removing the source of infection and the surgery probably has successful. The good news is that they did not have to shave so much bone away that I do not need rods and pins installed . Ok so here is the deal. Iny hand you see a injection access port. It is a multiple use access to medication and the business end is threaded to accept drip medication and hand held hypodermic known as push injection. Nurses special rating for push are special rated to a higher level than a regular RN. The process is simple in that to make a sterile seal, saline is injected into a five inch line before and after the medicine of choice. The first mistake was made when a push nurse was ready to inject without using saline first. I called her out on it and she there was already saline in the line and proceeded to inject The antibiotic leaked out and they set a new port. If she had done the correct process, the leak would have been harmless saline and I would have gotten the correct amount of medication. I was beyond enraged at this individual's laziness with plenty of saline injections right there in the room. If that was not enough , this morning another RN was going to hook me up to a drip line, and I said you cannot do that with out a saline rinse first. " Sorry I forgot" Them at the end she forgot again and started to defend her mistake. I asked her how in the hell was the medicine gonna all go in if she didn't clear the line. ? Of course I also be concerned about medicine left in the line could get degraded . So the warning is watch your six to make sure they don't kill you making lazy or dumb mistakes. My biggest concern is how much of this has already negative effects on other people or maybe even killed someone I will get another pic of the threaded part they put the medicine into
