Pullstart 62,840 #1 Posted August 22, 2023 I got a call from a family friend before the big show. He blew a rod in his tiller tractor. A lack of oil on that dippy stick will do it every time! @stevebo came through with a replacement 12 hp engine and tonight the tractor came over. C145 with an Eaton? Was that a thing?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,041 #2 Posted August 22, 2023 Mid 1980-1984 used Eaton 2
Sparky-(Admin) 21,315 #3 Posted August 22, 2023 C-145 with an Eaton 1100 was definitely a thing. One passed thru my place a few years back.

Brockport Bill 1,661 #5 Posted August 22, 2023 this is what is published on Tractordata.com for c145 tranny ----------- " Eaton hydrostatic was offered throughout the production run. Additionally, a Sundstrand hydrostatic was used on some C-145 tractors in 1980, model code 01-14KS01."
JoeM 7,873 #6 Posted August 22, 2023 Yep, got one and it is a tiller tractor. Had one of those 80's with the Sunstrand too. Bought it with a ventilated block.
Pullstart 62,840 #7 Posted August 22, 2023 Thanks for all the info fellas! Luckily the trans shouldn’t need help, with just a broken connecting rod. Engine swap should be a good to go project.
953 nut 55,198 #8 Posted August 22, 2023 Looks like a mid year 1980 change from Sundstrand to Eaton 1100. 1

c-series don 8,690 #10 Posted August 23, 2023 My C-165 which I believe is a 1981 has a Sunstrand if I remember correctly?
Pullstart 62,840 #11 Posted May 7 @stevebo that engine was clean as a whistle inside! I removed the balance gears while it was out, and it runs great! Note to self. Balance gear removal. Much easier to drive the second pin out and remove the gear, than fish the c-clip off and try to finagle the gear out.
Moonshine*Connoisseur 435 #13 Posted May 8 Is the balance gear removal a good idea ?? To prevent grenading of said gear.... I may do that to mine as well if it's for the good.

The starter “fell off” and you can see balance gears where they don’t supposed to be in the bottom of the oil pan.
Moonshine*Connoisseur 435 #15 Posted May 8 (edited) Oh lovely, I have some engine swaps coming up so I'll be removing those gears while off the machines. Are these balance gears in the magnum series engines as well ? Edited May 8 by Moonshine*Connoisseur
Fordiesel69 263 #16 Posted May 9 Magnums have a "new style" gear so the jury is still out. Im not sure.

Pullstart 62,840 #18 Posted May 9 I’d say it would be worth pulling them and trying it out. I guess driving that second pin, it might be a challenge to reinstall them if it were to shake too much.
Pullstart 62,840 #19 Posted May 9 I added the video of this balance gear removal to the sticky instructionals thread about balance gears.
