2 prong ignition switch

Recommended Posts

I have a question for all you round hood guys.  The ignition switch on a 1962 702 when the 2 prong key is inserted does the key turn?  On the switch in the pictures it will not turn.  I was not sure if it is suppose to turn or is it stationary and its only purpose is to make some sort of contact.  Thanks guys.

Agreed, it should turn - if you are REALLY careful, it should have 3 bent over tabs on the back of the housing that can be gently pried up (unless they were already done before). That allows you to disassemble it, clean and grease it - clean the contacts well. Gently reassemble and close the tabs.

It is a 2 position (on, off) switch to get 12 volts to the coil. There are aftermarket 3 terminal, 2 position ones on fleabay that use the same key. Look for Massey Ignition Switch.

If you can't make it work as it should, here is a link for a suitable replacement.
