Toro GMT200/ Hesston H-200 GMT

Recommended Posts

I bought what I thought at the time was a Toro GMT200 with a 60” deck at an auction for 100$

Wheel Tire Land vehicle Vehicle Automotive tire

I got it home and pulled the cylinder head the seized Kohler K-532 and found this horror scene:

After a little cleanup I found the bore was only slightly pitted, and I got the engine moving but it was stiff. Here is the right side:

Here is the Left:

I oiled the bores and got it spinning freely. I got looking at it, and there is orange paint and Hesston decals under the red paint and the Toro decal, the deck also says Hesston on it. The serial number tag is gone, Is there a way to know for sure what it is without that? The engine tag is also destroyed. Any way to find the year?

Does anyone have or know where to get a service manual for this unit? Does the power steering pump have a separate reservoir or does it use the trans oil? Is the valve and set of lines factory? If so what did it run?

Any help is appreciated, Tommy.

I’m no know it all but do have some info. Here is a fantastic reprint of an original manual.
https://www.agcopubs.com/hesston/operator_manual/english/f-5523/h140_h160_h180_h200_mower_front_runner_gmt_tt_tw_

You got a steal for $100. I believe the power steering pump does run off the units oil from the axle. The foot valve and lines are original. The unit had mower decks, snow blower, blade, rotary broom. Also had an option for a sleeve hitch so it could pull a plow, disc and other rear attachments. Toro bought out Hesston and ran both names on some equipment. If you have a 23hp, you have a GMT230. I started a Facebook group if you are on there. Search FrontRunner / GMT group. Lot of stuff on there. One of the original designer’s son is on there as are a couple of people that worked there before toro bought it out. Also David Bowman on there has 12 of these and is VERY knowledgeable on these machines. Anything else I can help with, ask away.

Thank you for all of the help thus far.

I have a theory that mine used to have a back portion that was a bagger, because mine has the extra hydraulic valve and it has a perch for the blower. But then someone put the back half off of a Toro on it because under the poorly painted red and The Hesston orange is Toro red.

On a side note it got a bath.

I’m a fan of those tires.  I’ve no idea how well they work but I like ‘em!

That's a pretty cool machine.  If I found one of those, it would be hard not to have it follow me home....

I had to make a hard decision that came down to Hesston/GMT’s or Wheel Horses. The horses won. Hopefully David does something good with them.
