I think anything 4 wheel in the 50 and early 60`s would qualify.Because of the age. If you see them now up for sale 90% of the time you can see that parts are missing engine is on it`s last leg. Transmissions are shot and leaking or worst the parts taken off to put on another tractor. Getting harder to find an all original one. Just my :twocents-02cents:

Especially the 1984 models.  I was told less than 100 were made; I had one I regrettably sold.

I wish I could find the pic from the woods. It was even more convincing in the original post. Faded paint, rust, and cracked "595-HD" decals. It added quite a bit of realism to the prank.

This one? :coffee:

Wish I had a screen shot of the actual craigslist ad.

That's one of them for sure!

That pic and the work that went into added a degree of credibility to the whole prank.

For how rare the 520-8s are supposed to be, I've seen at least ten for sale in the last year, all within two hours of Kalamazoo.

Nice 315-8.  I have an '02, excellent machine, too bad they were never offered in hydro guise.

I think I’ve lost sleep wondering why those 520-8’s didn’t come with electric lift and I don’t even own one! 😂

I have seen several as well( ONLY recently). Makes you question if there was really 225 produced. I do believe there was not many though, probably under 300, I question where they got the "225" number from..

And for the 60th anniversary model year 315's, I believe there was less than 500 produced or made, never seen another 60th anniversary model in a while.

I think the story on 520-8 is questionable. I live in NC and have owned two. Also seen several others.

If any were built, this would probably be 1 of just a handful of prototypes built.....

So you folks got me thinking.....

I know. Very risky there.

But really.....

How do we KNOW how many 520-8 or 1974 C160 Tecumsehorse were actually made other than hearsay or repeated internet unprovable "knowledge"...?

@76c12091520h Correct, Years ago I started a thread on this tractor. One day I was looking at the brochure and realized that they never made a C-171! Or maybe they made only one? Is that a Series one Kohler under the hood? I don’t believe Briggs made a 17 hp in that era.

I agree with everyone else, there seems to be a lot of 520-8’s around for only 225 produced. There were only 200 LSE’s produced and you don’t see them anywhere near as much as the 520-8’s ? 🤔

My question is what happened to all the records kept by Wheel Horse? Where did all that info end up? Surely it went into someone’s hands and not the trash.?.?.

50 Lever Steers and 500 Seniors built and less than 100 or so combined on record from @Big-Game …

To Some extent I can kind of understand the perceived rarity of the 420 LSE a little better because they were marketed as a specially chosen collector's piece right from the start.

Specifically numbered. Even specifically named.

I've only been hanging around with this cluster of fine folk for about 6 or 7 years now but I've never gotten that impression from a 520 - 8.

Whether the production numbers really are that close or not I don't know of course. But it seems to me the resistance to sell  and the desire to purchase, a 420 LSE is far higher.

Since all models of Wheel Horse long frames are pretty much the same and the transmissions hasnt really changed much over the years.  Decals are pretty easy to have made. Im sure there are counterfeits out there.
especially the nice shiney like new ones

I hadn't even thought of that.

Making a faux 520-8 really would be pretty easy with a couple tractors combined....

True that. My no-name will some day be a c-160 and I have the decals to prove it :laughing-rofl:

...but it will have a L/S rear-end, so admittedly not factory.

Nothing wrong with that!

I have an LSD 10 pinion differential here I may put in the 1975 C160 Automatic sometime.
