Project 'Fly-Wheel Horse' hit n miss 857

Hope you all are doing great! Decided to park the off roader for a bit and do something else with this Horsey addiction. Been wanting an old hit n miss engine since I was a kid, and picked up a 1.5hp Sattley/Montgomery Ward last fall, did a quick cleanup and got her running. I also had a pretty rough but complete 857 in the back- the guys father bought it new back in western NY state- one town from where I grew up! I have a friend who's family had a Wheel Horse dealership nearby, and theres a very good chance thats where it came from! With that being said, this Horse was a keeper and needed something special.....like a Sattley.

Im not the first guy to do this, but possibly the first who is trying to tuck it all under the hood, make it look factory, and hopefully itll have enough grunt to put it to some light yard work!

@Greentored   who says you can,t?  nice weld / fitting work , might have to ride that horse " side saddle " with that side wheel set up, seen a few at shows , no harm no fowl , pete .

Theres definitely a fine line between 'sketchy n cool' and 'stupid'. Shes gonna need some guards for sure haha.

Here is a photo of one from a local show a couple years ago for inspiration. Made to replicate the W-9 it was sitting next to. No idea who built it,  never did find them to ask about it.

There are a few of these at the Big Show on the corner, but I never see them go anywhere.  I’d love to see one in use!  Bring it to Uncle Jim’s plow day!  
 

At the Portage, WI show, a dude built a big wheeler trike  Suburban mashup that he was riding around.  Sweet stuff!

Got this ol girl moving under her own power on Saturday! Plenty of adjustments and finishing touches, but the shakedown was pretty much a success!

Well y'all, she's shaken down and done!  Even gave her a scuff and shot of linseed oil and took her to a local tractor show and parade. Didnt seem to get much attention til I fired her up and started driving around- people went nuts This thing is so much fun, and yes theres enough power to at least pull wagons, the boat, etc.... don't believe id attempt hooking up to a plow and turning clay though.....

Thanks!  Absolutely plan to build 'some' form of guards, but they will be minimal. Hate to cover up all that mechanical sketchiness and beauty!

IMHO that's a huge part of the charm of an old machine.
