John A 20 #1 Posted August 5, 2023 I have a 1985 Classic GT 308-15 Model 73450. It has the two-speed rear. I bought the GT new. I seem to remember there was a stop (tab) held in place with a screw on the shift console. I don't know what to call the part. The stop prevented (may) the rear shift lever from popping out of the range selected. Assuming it worked as intended, using it was a little inconvenient. The part has been misplaced. At times, when I use the slower speed range in the rear, for descending a steep hill, the rear shift lever will pop out into a neutral position. This can be a bit hair-raising as the tractor quickly picks up speed. When that happens, I take an exciting ride trying to slow down the tractor. I am looking for the part number to order. Thanks, John Umm 73450 is a 315-8 (15 HP 8 speed) if your machine is popping out of the high or low range , you may have a worn out shift fork or the detent spring failed (or worn out detent fork bolt) either case, would mean tearing down the transmission to at least split the case (left side up) - Although if just the hi-lo range shift, it is serviceable without totally tearing the gears out of there.. you'd just need at minimum a case gasket & brake shaft + axle shaft seal along with whatever parts needed to fix the hi-lo range shift. If your tractor had a "Stop tab" held in on the shift console (the plate in front of seat) it was probably added by a prior owner to "fix" the range popping out of place - One thing that may be checked however is if there is full movement of the shift lever (they can get bent and then hit up on the side of the slot in the front plate, or against something deeper underneath such as debris build-up or a rock or something so that the shift lever never gets the shift fork into its detent position..) 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The later models with the NMIR (No mow in reverse) do have extra parts around the shifter but don't think they were a lock-out feature. John A 20 #4 Posted August 9, 2023 Hello, Thanks Guys. I bought the tractor Brand New in 2005 from a dealer. The serial number of my Classic GT : Model 73450 Serial # 250000717. It is possible that I bent something with the rear shift lever or have some debris trapped, blocking a full engagement. Popping out of gear, is not consistent with operating in the lower range. It seems to be isolated to rough or a bumpy hill leading to bouncing when going down. The use of the low speed rear isn't a common practice for me. I will give a close look under the console. My 1986, 308-8, shifts very smooth in all gears and both rear. Apparently a stop tab on the shift console is not common. i was looking for a part number. Wonder if you can look under the fender pan and see if the shift lever or rod is bent? If it is the knob end may be hitting something before the shifter can swing far enough for the detents to hold it fully in gear. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
