C195 PTO clutch adjustment

Recommended Posts

muz123

My new (to me) C195 PTO clutch spring popped off. Does anyone have a procedure to reassemble the spring and mount it against the bracket? Pictures are great!

Thanks!

I think there is a procedure to adjust the PTO clutch in the owner's manual.

I'll take a picture of the PTO on my tractor and post it tomorrow.

This service bulletin appears to have a revised adjustment

Really don't need an adjustment. Just unsure how to assemble as the spring and washers are off the tractor. Starting to think my bracket is bent....

@muz123  how easily do related /  intended  pulleys move ?  typically what I have found on PTO driven related  anything, is  COLLECTIVE DRAG , if there is a related bearing or movement point , pulley , rotating point , that has failed , the drive goes back to its weakest point , and fails .  not familuar with your set up , but pto drives have a definete commonality in function , part of it is not rotating easily , check every stage , pete

Soo, it appears that I do not need that end bracket that is originally installed there for the PTO to engage?

Well, all I can say is that the PTO clutch on my tractor was incomplete when I got it.  I replaced the PTO bell, a couple of roll pins and the hitch pin.  It works fine for me as is.

I suppose I should open the parts diagram back up and see what I am missing from factory stock.

There was originally a brake on the PTO bell to stop it quickly when it is disengaged.  Those parts are missing on my tractor and may be the parts you are asking about.

Yup.  I think your bracket is the PTO brake.

Find a copy of the Toro parts diagram for the C-195 PTO assembly.  Without that diagram the rest of this description is worthless.  I did a Google search on 'toro c-195 parts diagram' and ended up picking one of the parts tree sites that listed c-195 PTO clutch and control parts diagram.

I'm guessing that your bracket is detail #23 in that diagram.  It is held on by details 49,50, 42 through the front hole on detail 25.

If you look closely at the first picture I posted, you can see an empty hole in the bracket bolted to the engine just above the pulley.  That is where your bracket bolts on.  With the spacers and bushings, the bolt should be tight and the bracket should rotate on the mounting bolt.  The slot on the top of your bracket goes around the rod going back to the PTO lever.  The bracket should end up between washers that are between the front end of the spring on the rod and the nut on the front end of the rod.
