Recommended Posts

JohnForrester

Hello everyone

I inherited a 310-8 and noticed the mower deck belt slipping off. It looks like this pulley attached is loose.

Would anyone be able to give any advice on how to go about replacing this and/or fixing this assembly so the belt stops slipping

any help is appreciated

thanks, john

I think you may have attached the wrong file.  Back up and try again?  Do you have a photo?

Thanks Rick. The video might not have come through. Here is a picture showing how loose the pulley is

That doesn't look like a Wheel Horse pulley, but you need a new one anyway. That has had some rought treatment.  Also look to be rubbing the bolt heads below.. Deck size would be a big help on finding the pulley you need.

Your missing a fine treaded 5/8" nut and lock washer to tighten that pulley down.

This is a 42” deck

My local tractor store said the spindle shaft and bearing is also shot on it. Is there a spindle assembly and pulley you’d recommend?

We have a couple of venders listed downin the vender section. I think "K&B Horse Parts" has rebuilt spindles assemblies and may have the pulley. "A-Z Tractor" sells good used parts. Both would know what parts you need.

You can buy a spindle assemble and pulley or just bearings and a pulley.

Either way you will need to disassemble what you have.

Do you have a way to easily cut that pulley off the shaft?

That round collar looking item on the shaft probable has a square key in it.

Remove the grease zerk and use a puller to pull that okk.

if you don't have a puller, and auto supply usually has tools they will lend out with a deposit.

Once that round collar (which the pulley was probable spot welded to) is removed you can get to the bolts that will remove the spindle assembly.

:text-yeahthat: It's not supposed to look like that, sheave and hub are supposed to be joined.  Puller or maybe a nut splitter will help get the old junk off.  Give it a spin then and see how it sounds and feels.  If it's smooth and quiet, you might not even have to take it apart any farther.
