Identify mower deck

Recommended Posts

Dunedainranger

Hello, I picked up a C120 Automatic, believe it to be '76 model. Came with a mower deck, IH 42" plow blade, and a WH snow blower. I am having a hard time identifying my mower deck, I am assuming a 42".

These are the measurements I took:

Blade tip to tip - 40.75"
Discharge tip, to opposite wall - 41.25"
Blade length - 13.75 - 13.875"
Width of deck - 21.125
Length of deck - 47.125

Finally, I really had a hard time getting the deck attached. It seems to have bent brackets and a round bar that wants to dislodge as soon as it gets fully mounted. The front lifting bracket was not easy to get locked into place. The non-discharge side height adjustment wheel had to be removed to give clearance when mounting. I also found signs of patch work, new hardware, etc. I would like as much info as possible so I can start rwbuilding this thing - the JD is down and I really need to mow the grass. I know the WH is solid machine, just need mower drive belt, spindle belt is OK, and help with repair suggestions based off the above observations. Thank you, everyone.

I see you’re missing the adjustment rod that goes here (circled in the picture). Also that deck looks older than the tractor, I’m wondering if it’s been modified to work with your year tractor.

Here’s a couple better pics of what you’re missing.

I have it. It was disconnected and hanging to the rear of the deck. Just hard to see it.

Any guess why the one wheel interferes with the rear tire? I have more pictures showing some modifocations to the deck that I could find.

So if I am understanding this correctly, I have 65-42MS01? It's definitely a 42".

If so, would my spindle belt be a Toro 1594, and mower drive belt be a Toro 102742?

Thank you for your help.

@Dunedainranger in addidition to many other areas that need help , after you pull of the blades for replacement , would ,get some KRIOL , OR DEEP CREEP  penetrating oil totaly on / into that  crusty bottom side , would also prop it up to the sun , usubg the lift frame  against something solid ,  have any 2 x 8 wood ? prop it up to angle the sun , so the deck gets hot  and sucks in the grunge killing lubricant . you will have a lot of options , if you are going to rebuild the spindles , new bearings , with a clean out and re grease , hi temp 550 deg lucas grease , related idler pulleys , also muel drive .pto drive , basically the more issues you eliminate while you are their , the easier / quieter  that deck will run . also realise  as a newbie , that might seam overwhelming . overall conditition of that deck , reflects , painting , and little else . lots of related rebuilding info on this site , take advantage of it , good luck , pete

Belts usually did not change - all 42" side discharge decks use the same belts.

I see

Drive belt 102742 (1/2" x 103")
Spindle belt 6738 (1/2" x 86")

Many illustrated parts lists are shared with a similar but larger deck but often fail to identify what deck (42" and 48") uses what belts.

That is why the belts have ben added to the deck information page.

Click on the fuzzy picture in the link to see them
