New commuter car

Traded in my Nissan Altima for this 2022 Sportage. AWD and heated seats will be nice for my ride to work in the winter:handgestures-thumbupright: . Not a fancy rig but it does have all the lane departure/crash warning stuff, automatic high beams, apple carplay for navigation and tunes etc.

The Altima was a good car but that Nissan CVT (continuous variable transmission) has the worse reputation of all the manufacturers that use a CVT. There’s a class action lawsuit against Nissan for the trannys and a few weeks ago I get a letter telling me that Nissan has extended the warranty on the CVT only up to 84,000 miles…not happy as I was at 79,000 miles. Didn’t give me a feeling of confidence at all. So traded it in.

Thanks! It’s got FULL coverage on everything except wear items till January 2032 or 100,000 miles. I like that feeling:handgestures-thumbupright:

I hope you know I am a bit embarrassed for thinking that. Your co-pilot got a real big kick out of it though.

I happened upon a “new” commuter vehicle today too!  I nabbed a 2000 S10 Blazer ZR2 4x4 for little to nothing, delivered!  It runs good and needs a lot of polishing up inside and out.  And some brake line work :handgestures-thumbupright:

*the best part, is I probably have one new truck payment into this purchase

The extended coverage is such an important thing these days. There are so many intricate doodads on today's cars that you could go broke keeping up with them all. My sister-in-law's KIA is about five years old and if it weren't for the extended warranty she would have given up on it a couple years ago. The safety (lane departure/following to closely etc.) system went out which disabled the car. Repair costs were nearly as much as she paid for the car but was paid for by the extended coverage as well as the rental car for a couple weeks while the work was being done.

I made my last car payment in the 1980s. I didn't always have a fancy car but haven't made a payment since. For the past thirty years we have always purchased our cars/trucks new and paid cash, run them at least 200K  so depreciation is not an issue. Seeing the price of new cars today I'm glad our next new car will likely be our last new car. We have only got 150K on our 2008 Mountaineer so there is no rush.
