B-80 Front PTO Pulley Mount

Recommended Posts

Brother Grilka

Hi, I have a 1977 B-80 and the part pictured here that holds the pulleys for the PTO/Deck connection has broken. First-of-all, what is this part called? One of the pulleys came apart and damaged the rod on which it was mounted. Is this fixable? Does anyone know of a good place to look for a replacement? Thanks!

That's part of the idler bearing, you should be able to get it off.

You CAN rebuild that drive. You do need to have some mechanical skill (and tools) to remove and replace the pulleys. The inner race from the v pulley can be split with a Dremel for removal. New pulleys can be had from many sources for short money.

If you can't or don't want to do the work, you can buy a complete one. It's your call.

If you replace it, the damaged drive still has value!

@Wayne0  , done a number of them , most critical failure point is the generic grease in the bearings , due to heat and angular stress , those bearings are typically  6203( 3/4 ) 2RSC3  with wide rubber side shields , thats the opportunity savng  point. carefully remove the shields , fine pocket flat screwdriver , small putty knife , once started , its an easy removal. wipe ot original grease , also carb cleaner flush , use a 550 temp deg  rated grease , lucas green or lucas marine grease , refill to same ammount , put back seals . also lay out your tear down , reassemble same way , lubricate ass you go with spacers , done the exact thing to all my mower decks and pto belt drive set up .  deck can / should easily easily move by hand , at belt open area .pete
