8” Grinder Wire Brush Recommendations

Recommended Posts

oliver2-44

So I’m looking for recommendations for better/longer lasting wire brushes for my 8” stationary grinder

Needless to say this one is wore out I believe it came from Lowes. I bought the one pictured below from Home Depot because I needed one today. I’ve used it before and know it won’t last a long time.

I know they all will wear. But when they sling bits of wire bristle shortly after new, that doesn’t cut it.
I know the twisted/knotted one will last longer but I like the un-twisted ones for nuts, bolts, small parts, etc. Better one will cost more that $10.47 from HD, but I’m willing to pay for ones that are safer. Yes, I always wear a face shield or at least safety glasses when using a white wheel.

I consider Norton to have some of the best wire wheels.

@ebinmaine  remember using a well worn wire wheel , when it atarted to scatter very short wire  bits , like getting  heavy bee stings . were stuck in my clothes , but bounced off my face shield , quidkly shut it down and replaced the wheel. pete

Went to two larger Welding Supplies yesterday looking for a set of Ox/Acetylene B to A hose connectors.

Yes I learned what we think of as regular 1/4" hose has "B" size fitting.

The small jeweler torch hose uses "A" size fittings

Looked at their wire brushes and all they had were the ones with threaded centers that mount on hand grinders.

Nothing for Stationary Bench Grinders.

I'll second that.

M/C has excellent quality on everything I've bought so far.

I use them a lot and can only think of one significant issue in the past 38 years.  I ordered some expensive carbide milling inserts that they just tossed in a plastic bag nicking the cutting edges on each of them, but they did replace immediately.  They usually don't give the product brand in their catalog, so often you don't know what you are buying, so you have to trust that they will supply quality product.  In the case of the inserts, there is only one manufacturer of this propriety type and I had to guess if they were the name brand or knock-offs.  They were indeed the real thing, it just kind of irked me that someone decided to remove them from the protective packaging perhaps to hide the name.
