36" Side Discharge deck on a C-101 questions....

Hello everyone!

I have just purchased a C-101 for use at the house but it needs some love first. I am pretty sure it is a 36" deck but I cannot find any marks or stamps to confirm this. I did a rough measurement of the rotational field of the deck ( I'm assuming that is the measurement used since the overall width of the deck didn't make sense.) My father's 120 is what I cut my teeth on but that one was always in somewhat rough shape and I'm pretty sure it had the wrong deck on it or someone messed with it since the wheels hit the tire on the one side.....  Back to my questions....

So the engine on this runs like a top and it drives well. But the guy I bought it from shredded the deck belt before I got it because the drive pulley on the left side sitting on the tractor failed. It will need to be replaced. Looking at the pulley on the other side, it isn't looking too promising either. Like someone pried against it a little in a few spots. So I'd like to replace both pulleys. I did notice that the LH side pulley also had a little deflection in it I believe from the spindle... The same issue my dad's had. In his case we found another spindle for it and it stopped banging around before it got up to speed. I'd like to avoid that. But I know finding spindles for this generation of decks can be difficult. They don't look terrible peeking underneath but I'm sure once I dig into it there is going to be some tinks and foul language involved. To this end, is there an upgrade or interchange to a more modern spindle that is available for these decks? I did notice that these have grease fittings on the tops of the pulleys. I don't remember that being something on my dad's deck..

So to summarize since I know I can be a bit long-winded.

How do I confirm the deck I have?

What belt do I need for the deck to drive the outer pulleys?

Is there an upgrade or interchange for the spindle/bearing assemblies should I have to replace one?

I have done some digging around, this is the information that I have found at the moment...

I believe mine is a 1978 model 1?0K801-1 8083 with a Kohler that has a more modern looking tag than I suspect it should (K241AS S/N:2701000041)

I think it is a 36" side discharge

From the digging I have done I believe it's a 8411 belt

Is the 111726 spindle compatible? It looks similar.

I really appreciate any suggestions or leads on parts you may have. I've checked out a few sites for rough estimates but it has been a while since I have looked up parts for a wheel horse. I'd like to get this back in action this week if possible.

Thank you everyone!

Dan

Oh ok, is there a visual tell tale of it? I'm not intimately familiar with the differences.

Thanks!

Can tell after looking at a few thousand of them :laughing-rolling:.  The recessed area on the top of the deck where the pulleys are, also on  a 36" deck the rear deck wheels would be tucked in much closer to the track of the rear tractor tires. If it was a 48" it would have a thick reinforcing plate under the spindle pulleys.

I appreciate the help! I see on parts tree that the part numbers for the pulley and the spindle assembly are different. Is the part number for the pulley, 106074?

Thank you!

Need to know what pulleys / spindles are on the deck. Are the the spindle shafts keyed or not? Best approach if you're working on this deck is to get it apart first cuz you're more than likely going to need more parts than you originally think, and some parts may not come apart without breaking.

I will have to look after work. I do remember from my dad's tractor having that issue.

Alright, here is the poop! I took the deck off and it appears I am in need of one spindle housing. It is missing about a quarter of the mounting structure.

The pulley doesn't have a number on it but it is a round 3/4" shaft with a key. Approximately 3 1/4" diameter.

The blade is a 106077, approximately 13 5/8" long.

It looks like my shopping list is going to be 2 pulleys a spindle and eventually blades. As it turns out I have a coworker who's father collected wheelhorse goodies. So I will be checking with him on parts. But would anyone have any direction on possible part numbers or indicators for the spindle I need and pulley?

*edit would the spindle be a Toro 111726?

Thanks!

Dan

Depending on what you find at your friend's, I would have everything you need in stock. It would be a good opportunity to upgrade to the newer style of spindles and pulleys since you're changing them anyway. The keyed spindles/ pulleys have gotten harder to find as the parts for them get discontinued. Blades are the same.
