pto lever - issue. Please read, i think its a easy fix

Recommended Posts

Ok guys/gals

My 416H starts awesome, only trouble is, I have to lift up on the pto engagement lever to get it to start

There is a pto safety inside the dash, and when i lift up on the lever (push the top of the lever towards the tractor, i hear that safety click and it fires right up

Now i notice a plastic bushing? where the lever goes into the dash, it appears to be worn, broke etc

Im assuming that is what is causing this.

Where can i order that new bushing? or does anybody have part number?

Edit

Nevermind

I found a diagram

I have the bushing, but it appears there is a c clip thats holds the bushing in tight, which im missing

Ill look at it later today, may be a super simple fix

Those plastic bushings are readily available at any hardware store / auto parts store.

They have a 45 degree slit in them to allow easy installation over the shaft / handle.

Also be sure that the micro switch lever is not bent which can also mimic this same scenario. The switch can also be adjusted to perform better if the new plastic bushing does not correct this finicky start issue

@stegs  possible opportunity to firm up that lever  start area , still next to battery?   notice the stack of washers on the end start? firmed up overall , sloppy play , grease every movement / connection point , that area is a gold mine for improvement , notice corner of flange bearing to steering column? that battery bolt ground rail , add another cable from battery ground bolt , to corner of engine/ frame , last picture , enhances electrical rectifier grounding , removed trunion , install  heim joint , also note battery tender connection leade , cable wrapped to choke cable . gold mine for improvements , pete

I found my issues

ON the inside of the dash, there is cotter pin holding that lever in. There is 1 very thing washer that is near that cotter pin

I simply removed the cotter pin, added another washer, reinstalled the cotter pin and now it "pulls" that lever tight.

No issues anymore!! simple fix

@stegs  more often than not, have found the intended , FUNCTION OF  LINKAGE / LEVER POINTS , to be the main issue of whats going  on . very often refer to added washers , grease , aerosol lubricant to take the effort out of function . still marvel at how easily / smoothly , my pto lever to muel drive engages the deck . went over every movement spot ,and improved it , that led me on to , related lubrication failure issues , eliminated that , my neighbors , "  lawn tractor "  has a mower deck engagement , that sounds likes screaming , ripping metal , what could possibly be the problem ?  glad you helped out your issue , pete
