Skwerl58 737 #1 Posted July 12, 2023 I have a 1054 that I am trying to get running. It has not ran in years. I have rebuilt the carb, rewired and changed to solenoid and 103990 ign switch, new condenser, cleaned and checked points, new spark plug and electric fuel pump. It has spark at the plug and power to where it should be.There is fuel getting in the carb but does not seem to be moving into the engine. I can take gas and spray into the carb and it pops until the fuel is burned off. Do I need to change the float or what? I have checked the float and it does have a rattle but not heavy and it appears adjusted correctly. Just searching for a solution before I take to someone. oliver2-44 10,075 #2 Posted July 12, 2023 Does it have enough compression to run? Pull the spark plug and pur you thumb over the hole, then crank it. if it will blow your thumb off the hole it should run!

Then the float valve is allowing gas to get into the carb. If gas is not pouring out of the throat of the carb when the electric fuel pump is running. Then the float valve is shutting the fuel off like it should. Did you remove the main jet screw/emulsion tube and make sure that it was clean? Gas gets sucked through the main jet screw in order to get into the engine. Before removing this screw, count how many turns in that it takes to bottom out. Remember that number from bottom to reset the screw when you install it. Should be around 1 1/2 turns out from bottom.
Skwerl58 737 #4 Posted July 13, 2023 I took the carb apart today and checked the main jet and the tube and they looked fine. I also sprayed the carb out with some cleaner and removed the slow speed jet and cleaned out there also. I am thinking about taking the head off next and check everything out there. Thanks for the responses.

If a valve is sticking you'll never build enough compression and it's not uncommon for an exhaust valve to stick after sitting for a long time.

Thanks for the responses. I just did a valve job on a K181 and it was time .Carbon build up over time. Not hard to do this. Just time consuming.
