peter lena 8,631 #5 Posted July 10, 2023 @hotajax exactly that , maybe a pipe clamp bolted to a 2x4 or heavier , that clamps to the steering shaft area . end of wood beam beam wedged into a wall corner , or held to wall by a helper . the more solid the better , that drift pumch should be a solid hit , thats what makes the pin move . done that many times . pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ri702bill 8,327 #6 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) As Pete said - place a length of wood - 2x3 between the steering shaft below the wheel side opposite the hammer and other end seated solidly up against the garage inner wall stud - the key is solid - Use a RollPin Punch if you have one... Once the pin is out, you are NOT done - the steel hex hub may (most likely is) rusted to the shaft. The wheel hub is overmolded onto that hex - go easy. IF you hub already has splits in the plastic at the pin area, it may very well break apart when you try to remove it..... been there, done that... If you break the wheel, the hub opens up and removing it gives good access to the hex for removal........ Curious - are you in Solebury?? I can simplify that for you: it's 0.75 inch diameter with a roll pin pressed into it. No splines. Standard Kelch wheel more than likely. Being it's been there since 1985, it will be brown welded pretty hard. Getting the roll pin out is the easy part. Getting the wheel off without destroying it is the hard part. oliver2-44 9,756 #15 Posted July 15, 2023 I learned from @Achto, skip all the setup and banging and get a carbide glass bit (set of 5 small sizes at HD).
