Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #1 Posted July 7, 2023 Did I need another horse? Absolutely not, but for $50 I had to buy it. One of my wife's co-workers got in touch with me about this 312-8 that was rough and he emphasized rough. It needs lots of love so I don't know if I'm gonna part everything out or try and get it running. Always happy to have another one though! 9
Moonshine*Connoisseur 435 #2 Posted July 8, 2023 If that's rough then I'm Jeremiah Johnson. Good score 👍 2 1
ebinmaine 67,641 #3 Posted July 8, 2023 Nicely done!! Likely those hubcaps will some up with some effort. That tote. The clevis hitch alone will easily pay out your investment. 4
Jon Paulsen 290 #4 Posted July 8, 2023 (edited) Wow, what a deal. I'd say restore and enjoy, but if you part out a deck, let me know. I'd have to look up the numbers, but could use some belt guards for a later 48" deck. Edited July 8, 2023 by Jon Paulsen
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #5 Posted July 8, 2023 I've never worked on a horse this new before. It needs a new fuse block. The one on it has a couple melted in there so I need to check for shorts. Trans has some issues. The set screw for the shifter is broken off and she doesn't shift. Nothing we can't fix though!
moe1965 740 #6 Posted July 8, 2023 Wow I would have not passed that up either. I'm sure you will have it up and running in no time. Don't part it out

DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #9 Posted July 8, 2023 That's a perfect candidate for one of those "satisfying videos" where people enjoy watching things get cleaned and have that lovely green moss power washed off (slowly). 1
Retired Wrencher 5,465 #10 Posted July 8, 2023 Nice pick up. Clean it up and see where you are at from there. Should be a good project.
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #11 Posted July 19, 2023 It lives! It doesn't do much else, but it lives! Doesn't charge the battery and I'm not sure what this melted fuse goes to, but it's a start! received_665734635029106.mp4
Wheel-N-It 2,969 #13 Posted July 19, 2023 Try exciting the regulator by shorting the center terminal of the voltage regulator to the positive terminal of the battery. You will have to do this with the engine running. maybe that will bring the charging system back to life. If not, then you will have to work on the wiring.
Retired Wrencher 5,465 #14 Posted July 19, 2023 Looks like a great over the winter project. Enjoy!
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #15 Posted July 22, 2023 Got it moving tonight. I put a new fuse block in it and that fixed my starting and charging issue. After this video I dialed in the carb a little better. I fixed the broken shifter so I could change gears. The roll pin in the collar on the shift lever was broken, replaced that and good to go, changed fluids, amd pressure washed it. Probably tinker with it some more and then it'll be for sale I think. received_809327540632421.mp4
