97 seat help

struggling finding a nice 1997 300 series seat . Open to a medium back / high back .

I looked and none matched up I could find .

It seems the "universal" fit seats start at 6" bolt hole center-center. Maybe you can open up the hole enough to accommodate? 

 

I want to do this myself, but we all know where the cheap stuff is made and how much they care about accuracy. So, I want to see in person before I drill holes.

  Maybe it’s my old shot eyes…but that seat looks fine. What’s the story?

I thought the 300's all took the 7 x 7.5 pattern.  The local "Home and Harvest" store has an offshore universal that fits that.  I didn't pay attention to the other bolt holes in them. Sorry that's not a direct answer.  Maybe you could change the seat pan to the "normal" size?

My 520 is 7 1/2" wide x 8 " long. Even with a standard flip seat bracket he still needs the 8" length unless he changes seat springs.

Same here.  Ordered a seat last week from Norther Tool and was another no go.  The 5 3/4" measurement they stated was front to back - not side to side.  Anyone found one recently that actually fits without modification?

5 3/4 " x 8 " is the correct and nearly impossible to find bolt pattern for that seat. It appeared on many of the later models with the seat safety switch that was up inside the seat cushion. Same pattern on this NOS 314.

Might be easier, just at an adjusted price with an inflation rate to match its rarity...

Get a steel plate. Drill the necessary holes to mount it to the fender pan including any for seat switches ect. Find a nice seat you like. Now drill holes in the plate so the seat will bolt to it. It aint Rocket Surgery!

You may need some washers for spacing the plate to either or both of the pan and seat.
