Help Identifying this Transmission

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, any idea what transmission. This is? This one came out of the tractor @wallfish built at the 2022 wheel horse show. But I can't remember what it was. I looked through some of the manuals and watched a couple of @stevasaurus videos. at first i thought it was a 1967-68 5060 trans...but it has a dip stick tube. So I'm thinking it's later.

Definitely not a 6 speed.

See the brake drum location.

This is a 5060 6 speed with Limited Slip Differential.

Brake drum right beside the axle tube.

:text-yeahthat:

Came out of a Raider.

Someone beat on the hub and knocked the axle out.

:ROTF:We did a complete trans swap and put a tractor together. Not build a trans but you're absolutely right if I did.

Another thread the Dino got his name wrong.  He said he didn’t mind… Bill or George or anything but Sue.  Well… I had to

8 spd. All you really need to know is what the axle length and diameter is. Hubs look like the HD ones so I would say 1 1/8" Lowell has bearings and gasket. A-Z has the axles and any gears you might need. Everything is the same internally with all the 8 spds except the number of pinions. Tear it apart. Let's see what it needs. Probably doesn't need any more than a gasket and c clip.

Since it's painted black, does that mean it came out of a Work Horse tractor?

If it has 1 1/8" axles and is a Limited Slip, it is a 5073.  Raider trans with dipstick. Brake drum on cluster gear shaft.

If it has 1" axles, it is a 4 pinion #5086...Raider.

An 8 pinion 8 speed has 1 1/8" axles.

A 4 pinion 8 speed has 1" axles.  Brake drum on cluster gear shaft.

It has 1" axles. I'll have to watch a couple more videos of yours to figure out what the cluster gear shaft is, haha.

The cluster gear shaft is what the brake drum is on. Pretty simple to fix. Toss it in the Cadachevy. Drive to NY in August for the Steam Pageant. We'll tear it down and see what it needs and reassemble it so you know how it goes together. I'll supply the pie

Hahaha, well, I calculated at 3.80 per gallon at 16mpg for 1220 mile round trip, it would be about 300 bucks. As tempting as some Mennonite rhubarb and shoo fly pie might be... I'll just zip apart the trans and see what I find. I'm just tried of tripping over it in my shed. Worst comes to worst, I'll have some nice hubs and I'll throw the gears on ebay.

Here is my daughter trying a bite of the shoo fly pie you brought me!

..... On each side of a nicely redone transmission.

I'd bet that's an easily solved issue.
