They look so much better on your dump truck

Not only will they look good they will not blow off when transporting and provide easy access to compartments under them.

Finished mocking up the seats and dash today. Now to figure out the steering column support and build the transmission mounting plate.

@Ed Kennell A rough draft just for starters. I'm a long ways off but here is a start.

Now that I have the steering column mounted it appears the drag link will not work the way it is currently mounted. I may have to turn it around to get the proper movement for the drag link.

You mean when you turn left the truck goes right?      I had that same problem when I built my dragster.     :confusion-confused:

Almost. It just seems to want to turn left. Right turn is almost non existent. I want a dump truck not a race car. :ROTF:

Oh, that's an easy fix.    We had a D9 Cat with a right track that wouldn't lock.  You just had to back up to turn right.

Nothing wrong with race cars!            :ROTF:

The drag link on the 953/1054 crosses under the frame pushing and pulling the steering arm on the left front spindle. Your steering box is too close to allow this to happen.         :confusion-confused:           May need to improvise a cross shaft mounted behind the steering box that will be rotated forward and back by the Ross box and have a lever nearer the center of the shaft to attach the drag link to.            :twocents-02cents:

I spent some time today cutting the steering column bracket out and rebuilding it. It took a while but I think I figured out how to make it work. As you suggested @953 nut I will have to add a bracket to  extend it behind the steering column about 7 inches. I will also have to extend the pivot plate to lower the connection about 3 inches because of the height I had to mount the dash.

I'll post pictures when I get it built.

Steering problem resolved. I need to order 1/2 " heim joints to build the drag link. The drag link shown is temporary for testing.

Just thinking out loud Jay and it's hard to know just from the pics. And I'm no mechanical engineer either.

Maybe you should test that steering under load. The leverage length of the new pieces appears like it could possibly bend that steering plate on the Ross system. Try turning it lock to lock on the ground with someone standing on the front of the frame or add a bunch of weight. Traveling will add force against the steering so try to simulate that.

The added length going down from the fulcrum point of that Ross steering will make it turn faster too (less steering wheel turning lock to lock). That looses some of the mechanical advantage of the gearing plus it adds quite a bit more leverage force back against that steering piece.

Or, it's perfectly fine and I'm over thinking again.

Maybe something like this :twocents-02cents:

Maybe @Handy Don can chime in on some thoughts as he's pretty good at figuring stuff out on paper and using his fancy mathmagician skills LOL.  Whereas I'm just a trial and error type.
