Just waiting for the ok from my oncologist to start fabrication.

Not sure why he would have any say in when you start your mental therapy sessions. This should aid in your recovery.   :teasing-poke:

Because of comprised immunity. Mental therapy has been building it in my head and finding things I haven't thought about as well as sourcing parts.

Jay, It's great to see you persevering and getting right back on this build.

That bed does have a good look to it

Thanks John. As long as I'm topside I'm going to give it my all.

I will be modifying the bed a little as I repair it. But keep the same look. I may add another side pocket to each side.

That needs to be corrected for surer,   Can't have a super cool custom Wheel Horse one of a kind Wheel Horse running around with Cushman hangn' from its tail.

I won't be using the tailgate. Maybe hang it up on my shop.

Floorboard and seat frame mocked up. Also the position of the motor and front axle mocked up.

Nothing is welded  in place just tacked or clamped.

That will fit in well with the LOOOOOONG Truck thread going on here.            :confusion-confused:      Being that long it will need a LOT of room to turn it.   Have you considered moving the front axle back some and the transaxle forward about 30 inches and running tandem rear axles?     :scratchead:     Would help out with maneuverability and look SOOOO  KOOOOOOL!

I have the front axle positioned for maximum turning radius but the rear end could probably be moved forward. I haven't considered tandem.

Wheel base is probably the reason why every time I go to build another truck it turns into something else. I prefer short and maneuverable because I don't live on a farm.

Akermann steering angles for the steering is important to gain the most turning radius and keep the front wheels on track. Wheel base length is going to determine the radius so the shorter it is the tighter the radius can be.

I don't have to have the rear axle under the bed. I could easily move it forward 30 inches. I don't have any real tight areas of my yard that I would need the dump truck for so turning radius would not be a problem. I have 2 1/2 acres to turn around if I need to.

Not one long belt. 3 shorter belts and 2 jack shafts.

The second rear axle could be two 1 1/8" shafts supported by four pillow blocks. The assembly would probably want to be mounted on a pair of spring loaded swing arms to allow for uneven terrain reducing the potential for the drive wheels being lifted off the ground.  Just a thought, don't want to complicate your build too much.

Moving the rear forward and shortening the frame could make it easier to tip the bed.

I did some more lay out today and I think I have the wheel base down to about 74" and a steering angle of about 40° -  45°. According to the turning radius calculator that should give me about a 6'  -  6 1/2' turning radius. I think that is pretty short for a two seater dump bed and keep the dump truck look I am after.

I will have to make a couple design changes but  had ran short on a couple pieces of metal and needed to visit the metal shop anyway.

How big are your feet?  You must be related to that French pole vaulter in some way and need the extra space in a couple of places! LOL

https://www.dailydot.com/memes/french-pole-vaulter-bulge-memes/

Maybe possible to shorten that space a little? Just :twocents-02cents: and a couple of jokes! :D

@wallfishThat was the main part of the re-design. Lol

I gained almost 12" with that change.

I think I have found the final design. Now to start building it. I decided not to cut up any more metal mocking it up and just improvise, looks crude but it works. Final wheel base is about 66".

Like the front axle placement.          :text-yeahthat:              However,             :confusion-scratchheadyellow:         Won't those two short step ladders look a bit out of place.   Wheels would work much better!           :ychain:

I was wondering about steering without front wheels too.

I like the set back front axle - looks proper on a dump truck.
