Parts are starting to arrive. I have received all the wheels and rear hubs.

I picked up the frame rails. 2x2x3/8.

I have the axle. 1 1/2 x 3 x 1/4.

Ross steering and some other axle parts are on the way.

When I picked up the angle iron my steel guy asked me what in the world are you building? I explained it to him and he thinks it may be heavy enough.

I need to change the wheel backset. I know it has been done, but I have not tried it. How are the centers welded to the wheel?

Pretty sure they're spot welded. Look for the circles 2-3 each point and drill out the spot welds.

Thanks John. I'll look into that. If it works I'll have to figure a way to reduce the stress on the wheel and hubs after I move the centers.

Those wheels you got from me with the 24-12x12 on them were moved. I flipped the centers and welded them back in. Some are spot welded and some are welded along the back of the center where it meets the rim.

I figured a way to have duallys without changing backset and attaching both wheels to axle using a hub on each wheel.

No extensions needed. There are no side frame panels in the way.

I got the front axle cut out today.

 

I did a little visual mock up to show where this is headed. The frame rails have not been cut yet. I have a lot to build before I'm ready to do that.

That's the way I read it too. Like the axle was to pass through 2 hubs for each of the duallys to connect to the axle? Are you just using 2 hubs to connect the dually wheels together?

I'm mounting the wheels to the hubs then I will set the hubs to the axle independantly. I will probably cut a longer keyway.

I get that, but the axle in a Unidrive only sticks out far enough to reach through one hub. How does your axle get longer?

This differential has longer axles than any other I have had before. I got it from @19richie66. Maybe he can tell us what it is out of.

That's basically my line too. Can't remember what I had for lunch so...

If the axle is long enough to fit through 2 hubs on each side that's some long axles from something.

Likely you have axles from a GT14.  

They're several inches longer than a standard WH axle.

I do remember having a parts tractor that had long axles and solid rear wheels. Can’t remember much more than that. It wasn’t a GT14 because it was a manual transmission.  If someone was in it before I got it, I haven’t a clue. I got it out of a tractor / parts pile helping a friend clean up a collector’s place after he passed.

Think I'm gonna go with wide 24 12 12  tires that Richie made instead of going with the six 6-12s all around like that show truck pic. I really like that look for a truck as it really makes it look like a truck but just going to use what's here already. Probably smaller tires on the front too. But of coarse everything changes as it progresses too so.

Plan is to try and use the PTO attachment clutch and pulleys as the actual drive clutch which is another hair brained idea that's been on the to do (try it out) list for a long time.

Why the PTO instead of the normal foot clutch?

Because of relocating the engine vs transmission?
