Achto 27,570 #1 Posted June 29, 2023 First of all, I extend my deepest concern for those who are directly effected by the wild fires in Canada. I'm also amazed by how the fires have been effecting the rest of the continent. There has been heavy haze in the air here in Wisconsin for the last few days. Local daycare centers will not even let the children play outside. How is the air in your area?? 1
Handy Don 12,216 #2 Posted June 29, 2023 Smoke due back here in NYC metro area later today. The very heavy dose we got 10 days ago really opened a lot of eyes (figuratively) around here.
squonk 41,079 #3 Posted June 29, 2023 About what your picture shows Dan. Coming in waves. It's bad enough where I'm affected. If we had this in Pa last week I wouldn't have been able to go. It's bad enough with 30 Kohlers running around and ad a Tecky or two. Still it isn't as bad as a few weeks ago. That was like standing in the fire with no heat! 1
Pullstart 62,840 #4 Posted June 29, 2023 They say my area, it’s like smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. I’ve never done that before. The haze weird, I keep thinking it looks like it’s raining in the distance. I’m sad for the ones with stuff burning, but I’m an advocate for small regular controlled burns, to prevent this type of uncontrollable havoc. 4

ri702bill 8,316 #10 Posted June 29, 2023 Yup - sucks. Caught a small window of time today to mow - using the C81 was fine, the Honda walkbehind trimmer was tough....
ebinmaine 67,455 #11 Posted June 29, 2023 Here in Southern Maine we've had 23 out of 29 days in June with Recordable Rain according to the NWS. Much as that sucks we've definitely escaped the smoky experience all you folks are dealing with. Our weather is supposed to clear up some next week. Hopefully the wild fires will let off soon.
Handy Don 12,216 #12 Posted June 30, 2023 Wind shifted at about 1:00 and we went from clear to heavy haze in a half hour. 1
wallfish 16,994 #13 Posted June 30, 2023 We have pretty much escaped it here in central MA. One day last week was a little hazy from it but that's about it so far.
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #14 Posted June 30, 2023 Nothing here in Central NC where I live. However we did have a few days before the Big Show where the smoke was very visible and you could smell it.
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #15 Posted June 30, 2023 OK, things changed overnight. Now we have quite a bit of haze moving into the area. I hope you all north of me are not suffering from this, as I'm sure it is worse there where you are.
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #16 Posted July 1, 2023 (edited) Here's a pic that I took at 6pm this afternoon. The camera is pointing North on my property. You can see the haze, and we could smell traces of smoke here today starting about 10am I thought you fellows in the North East would be interested in seeing how far South this has traveled. JimSraj 429 #17 Posted July 1, 2023 With over 500 fires burning Looks like we may be in for this, on and off, all summer depending on the wind direction.
c-series don 8,690 #18 Posted July 2, 2023 (edited) It makes me wonder if it’s that bad hundreds of miles away, how bad it must be near the actual fires? I’ve fought plenty of brush fires with this truck and others just like it either driving or riding in the back.So I can imagine what those guys are going through. Although we do our best to go around trees, sometimes we have no choice but to push them over. It’s pretty incredible what these trucks are capable of. kpinnc 12,013 #19 Posted July 2, 2023 We've had sporadic days of haze here in NC. Just started a couple weeks ago, and as I said not every day. We've had alot of rain too, so those days the haze is not noticed. Rest has been mostly just like an overcast day, but the sky color is slightly yellowish. Yesterday was the first time you could smell the smoke.
