1962 WH-702

Drove 150 miles today to pick up this 702.  The original owner recently passed away and the new owner said it sat behind the shed uncovered for at least the past 25 years.  The good news is that it is all original and has a sickle bar.  It also has attached to the tractor is the frame for a snowplow but the plow could not be found.  The bad news is the motor is locked and the transmission shifts through all gears but the axles will not turn. The original tires are falling off the rims but the rims are solid.  The hood and fenders are toast but the remaining metal is all good.  I’m not sure if it can be saved or not.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Good score - my favorite model of WH. Looks mostly all there - the "Jockey Lever" to angle the plow would be the right one for 1962.

The Engine may actually be salvagable, given a lot of patience. Never saw a pan seat rot away that badly. The Unidrive is probably full of water - gears and bearings most likely done for.

Almost too nice to become "Yard Art"

Bill

I've saved ones in worse shape. Mainly for the joy of the challenge. Fill the cylinder & the transmission up with ATF & let them soak for a week or 2. Things might start to free up. If they don't free up, it will help make disassembly easier.

Its a project/parts machine.  Now you just need another parts machine.

An e-tank or sandblaster would help a lot.

Even if you just save the sickle and a bunch of parts it was worth the trip.  I would have driven he 150 miles for it.

1st dibs on the sickle if you ever let it go! I'm learning from these other guys, not sure their the best influence :ychain:

I always say if you want it and you can work on it --Go Get It.  You might have issues as you redo and yet you will always regret not having done what you wanted to do for a while!

Lots of helpers on the 702 Wheel Horses waiting in the wings!

I would definitely recommend the e-tank over sandblasting whenever possible. Little to no damage to the remaining steel.
