Debating on putting a predator motor in to get it running

Not an end of the world option. A Kohler K181 would be a better option & less noticable. They a bit easier to find.

I am still sorting out what to do. I appreciate all the input and guidance from the folks on this forum concerning the rebuild. I unfortunately don't have the space or the skill set to do the rebuild and probably pretty costly to have a shop do the work. Debating on putting a predator motor in to get it running or just offer it for sale to one of the guys here that would be able to restore it correctly. Its pretty complete and being a 701 its a unique one.

Yes, I understand. Maybe it would best to pass it on to someone who can give it a proper restoration. Tell me, is there any particular reason you want a 701? Would a later model round hood fit your needs?

I had been wanting a round hood to add to the collection and the 701 came up for sale not far from me. I was aware of the unique place it as in the wheel horse history being the first forward engine model and seeing it quite original, I just wanted to preserve it. There was another 701 for sale that the owner was going to convert to a 6 HP diesel and I had hoped to rescue that one before he ruined it. Missed out and have since seen it for sale with the diesel and some other contraption rear end :ranting:.

I am open to options, just know there are folks here that can preserve or restore it. So yes, a later model could be an option.

Makes perfect sense to me. You can see by my signature that I have a 701. Its a nice little tractor and all original. Last year at the Big Show I was camped out with John (Wallfish) and his Dad (Paul) Paul had this 753 round hood for sale, so I inquired about it. Low and behold, in the process of giving the tractor a mechanical restoration, he bolted up a dual range 8 speed transmission to it. So it's not 100 percent original but it is 100 percent better with the low range option. It can putt around at less than a walking speed. I thought that to be very important for riding around near the vendors and visitors at the Big Show.  Well, long story short, I bought it, love it, and could not be happier with how everything played out. So with that being said, maybe an 8 speed round hood tractor would be the better option for you like it was me.
