Yes it is.

The warehouse portion where I was doing the work has 60’ ceilings and a 20-ton crane that runs the length of the building. I thought that might be overkill for this task.

This was a kluge that I put together for the forklift.   A spreader bar clamped to the forks and a chain hoist.   We had a project years ago where we were doing final assembly for some skid mounted pump units that used a few different sizes of John Deere diesel engines.  The manual chain hoists were used for lowing the delicate radiators into place for mounting.  The shop guys really wanted electric hoists but I didn’t trust them to do things carefully and slowly.

As a result of that project, for a couple of years I was a John Deere dealer with access to their dealer site and resources…which was kind of fun.   Although I was also the one signing the incomprehensible EPA emission compliance forms which I wasn’t crazy about doing.

One of my job responsibilities is to review and approve all capital expenditures…I’d be lying if I told you I don’t think of all the personal uses I might have for a piece of equipment before giving it my blessing 😇

During college my VW bug needed a new clutch. The warehouse at the place i worked that summer had several forklifts.

I put a big pallet on one to lift the whole car up 6’.

Then I put a pallet on a smaller one to hold, lower, and move the engine as I unbolted it from the transmission. Easy peasy to replace the clutch. The tedious stuff was dealing with the connections to the engine--wiring, fuel line, throttle, and heat ducts (yeah, the heat was engine cooling air ducted into the cabin at the floor and up to windshield for defrosting!)

Having a generous boss was a great perk!
