True Rights of Passage : Clinton B1290 Recoil?

I don’t see a proper method to rewind a recoil in the Clinton B1290 Engine Manual.  Is there a good how-to that folks use?

The assembled look.  This one is off my RJ35.  The things dads do to keep kids happy…

I just keep the rope in the groove and wind it. Once you have it to where you want just fish the rope out of the hole and put a vice grip on it. Tie the handle on. 

Somewhere I have the manual for doing it but on on this phone.

I need to figure out where the other end of the spring goes, it done sprung.

The outside end should have a tee or notched that fits into a slot on the housing. The hook on the inside end sets in that tab sticking up near the center.

Which slot does it go in?  Does the spring need more bend in it?

Yep I think so ... ok should be hooked like the inside. Looks like it just straightened out which is tough to do on spring steel.

So the bent tab on the housing is in need of straightening and the spring is in need of bending?

suppose any heat on the end of the spring is in order?  MAP gas?  Propane maybe?

I even gave a black hood some WD40 lovin’ while I was at it!
