JoeM 7,874 #1 Posted June 15, 2023 Thumbing though the typical ads in a 200 mile radius of SW Pa., I see where WH prices are somewhat down. Machines with decks that run can be had for $600 and sometimes better. Availability seems good too. Certainly not to good a time to sell but to buy. I am out of room and time for the summer but I still look. (and I don't know why) Recently noticed a couple 520's in the $700 range and those are usually around a $1000. How is your area?
Pullstart 63,174 #2 Posted June 15, 2023 Not so much around here locally, but I have noticed lots of good deals on the classifieds! Some not so great as well
Achto 27,880 #3 Posted June 15, 2023 Prices have not changed too much in my area. I still look with no intention to buy, but... When I'm not looking, there always seems to be one that falls in my lap for a price that I can't refuse.
Oldskool 6,653 #4 Posted June 15, 2023 Availability in my area is as always kinda slim. Therefore the prices seem to be holding quite high. I always keep me eyes open for a good deal but they are few and far between.
OutdoorEnvy 1,599 #5 Posted June 15, 2023 It is pretty hit or miss here in Oklahoma. There will be stretches of nothing and then bam a few will pop up. Prices are all over. Some great deals, some not. It's typical though that when I have some money on hand and want a project I can't find one. Then when timing is bad a great deal pops up. A couple examples below: There has been a C-160 8 Speed, the @ebinmaine special, for sale for months. He says it runs and everything works as it should. Engine smokes though. No attachments, pics show it is covered in dirt and mice droppings. He is dead set on $475. The guy I bought some attachments from had a C-120 8 speed blackhood with a fresh engine rebuild, rig was recently painted and it was a solid job. Not showroom but good for a worker rig. Engine sounded perfect. Had a 42" SD deck that looked in great shape, also had the sleeve hitch on it. Tires were new in last year with AG rears and doesn't look used at all, He was asking $600 and I bet he would have taken less.
SPINJIM 1,981 #6 Posted June 15, 2023 The only cheap ones around here are junkers that haven't been maintained at all. Some others might look good in the pictures, but have mechanical problems because they're getting older. Maybe some good 'projects' can be found, but you get what you pay for.
pacer 3,174 #7 Posted June 15, 2023 Its bad down here in the south (NW La) I frequent facebook and CL and I havent bought a horse in 2 1/2 yrs and had to drive 90 mi to get it. The few - VERY few that do pop up are either junk overpriced or decent and overpriced .... along with being many miles away. I am really bummed with being without a horse to work on. I have always bought one to do a pretty deep 'refurb' on and put it up for sale (I erven made $40 profit on one!! - not counting time!) The enjoyment of taking a 40odd yr old wonderful piece of a good ole American quality and bring it back to being close to its original .... beauty? gives me great enjoyment. And, it shows when I put one on Cl or FB, the longest I waited for a buyer was 10 days, most times its 2-3 days selling and I dont recall ever having to quibble over asking price. I can recall only 2 guys even driving one! I just crank it up and give a little background and they wanna get it on the trailer and GO! I get a mighty good feeling when that happens........ and I MISS it!!!

Prices are all over the place here in Michigan for what is available (a lot of vertical shaft powered machines and >12HP machines are popping up lately), but it seems that much of what is there, for all brands, is over priced and/or worn out junk. I missed out on a complete Work Horse GT1848 for $100 last week while there are quite a few rusty, cobbled together 310s & 312s, or similar, people want $6-800 with a very questionable engine with a rusty deck. There seems to be a decent amount of 520s (H and xi) for sale in the $700 to $2,000 range and I may be adding to those listings here soon. 1
squonk 41,604 #12 Posted June 15, 2023 Usually $800 and up in CNY. I've seen some "parts machines" for about a Franklin but they have been too far away to be worth the effort when I figure in the gas to go get it
Sparky-(Admin) 21,489 #13 Posted June 15, 2023 Prices have dropped some here in Ct. Still plenty of overpriced machine on FB Market but they end up being for sale for a long time or you see the price dropping each week till it’s gets back to “reasonable” I’m happy with that! It’ll be interesting to see how the prices are at the show next week.
ri702bill 8,550 #15 Posted June 15, 2023 Here in RI, the availability of whole running 1960's and 1970's horizontal shaft tractors posted seems to be drying up - all TOO much "Ran when Great-Grandpa parked it in the weeds next to the shed" type of overpriced rust laden, once was a red tractor.though. Good only now for Yard Art...... And the sellers STILL believe it is their investment!! (I feel they should invest in used only once toilet paper instead)... About the same...

Now parts and pieces is a different story, I think there are plenty of great deals on parts.
ri702bill 8,550 #17 Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) I find that if the listing is overpriced - wait it out. Local guy had an 875 roller, a rebuildable 32" gear drive and a total trash 36" deck for $200. He had no bites in a month. (He also had NO clue what he had - it was part of a Storage Locker auction he won.....) The listing expired; he reposted it as "Need it all gone ASAP - $60" Got it all for $55 cash. Spent another $100 to get that 32" deck back in working order. Not a bad deal.. Edited June 15, 2023 by ri702bill

Sailman 1,294 #23 Posted June 16, 2023 Down here in the south I usually would only see an occasional wheel horse within 100 -200 miles. Lately there are a lot of listings, mainly 80's models in a variety of conditions and prices. Some overpriced junk, some reasonable. However, nothing seems to be selling.
Oldskool 6,653 #24 Posted June 16, 2023 Just now ran across an ad in my area for a B100. Comes with a cart and tiller. $800.
Oldskool 6,653 #25 Posted June 16, 2023 I call that a good deal. I've seen the same condition with attachments listed for $1500-$1800.
