men,

got a call from a guy who said he had a 1973 no name 8 hp 4 speed wh tractor.  only 4 speed.  no hi/lo.  he reports it will not move.  i went over the basic stuff with him via phone.   he calls back and wants to come over to my place and look at an 8 speed.   i have several extra's.  i know the tranny's bolt up the same.  so my question is will everything be the same 4 speed to 8 speed?

thank you

mike

Seems to me as long as the brake drum is in the same place you're good. :handgestures-thumbupright:

As long as your 73 has the original 5085 transmission an 8-speed will be plug and play other than some dinking around to get the hi-low shifter to fit. :)

thank you guys for the replies.   garage fridge is well stocked with all the popular brands of beer.  i wish my friends all drank the same brand beer but, they don't.

racinbob,   can you elaborate a bit on the hi/lo shifter fitment?

regards

Just finding a route for the hi/low shifter. It could involve some modifications to the 'console' sheetmetal. Or maybe removing a plate. Or maybe finding a plate(s) off a model with the hi/low. In any case it's very doable. :)

Absolutely agreed.

@mrc Mike this is one of the reasons we took apart Trina's Military Tribute Tractor, Millie, for a second restoration just recently.

We added a 6 speed transmission in place of the 3 speed.

Removal of the small piece of sheet metal was easy.

I didn't think the 73's had the sheet metal over the shifter.

Mine doesn't anyway, but I thought that was one of the things that was different on the 73's.

The part that will interfere is the bend in the sheet metal of the transmission and steering tower tunnel. I may have taken a picture of it when we were working on Trina's Military Tribute Tractor.

It's an easy trim.
