Sears sickle bar on B 100

Recommended Posts

moe1965

This is my latest project mounting this Sears sickle bar on a B100 .  I had it mounted on a 854 a few years ago and it worked great.  I bought a haban sickle bar and mounted it to a  312 for now I had to make some modifications but it's a much better set up than the Sears.   Once I get this rig up and running it's going to get put up for sale.  I still have to get a belt for it. I used a piece of string and looped it on all the pulleys and came up with a 102 in .  Tomorrow I'm gonna try and get a belt.

Depending on how many V’s and idlers (and their spring ranges), and the angles, in the circuit, that could be off by as much as 3, 4 or even 5 inches. I’d get a 100, 104 and a 106 in addition to the 102. Then, of course, it’ll turn out to one of the sizes between! Return what isn’t “the one”.

Good luck!

Perhaps measure again, but use a piece of rope - 1/2” or 5/8” diameter, instead of string. This should run closer to the position the “Vee” belt would run in the pulleys, and give a more accurate measurement. If you use your “String” measurement, explain to the belt supplier that the measurement will be the “Inside” belt length, not the “Outside”.

@moe1965 I would appreciate some pictures from the bottom showing how you modified the mounts for that Sears Sickle to fit on a WH.

Where the string is running only in the valley of the pulleys, this will usually work out. But where the belts go over spring tensioners and/or over idlers that run on the flat side (e.g WH mower decks or mules), you really need a fat rope to get a closer estimate of the correct length.

Here is a picture of the modification I made to make it fit on a wheel horse.    Basically I welded a bracket that uses the tachomatic . Back bracket is the same as the dozer blade hook up in the rear.  The part circled in white. In the front I use the tachomatic  where the mower deck attaches to    It's just a 5/8 bar with a piece of steel welded to the 5/8 bar and bolted through square tubing . Arrow is pointing to where I put the bolt through. That piece is not pictured.
