Southern_Secret 463 #1 Posted June 7, 2023 I ordered a brinly hitch and roacker shaft kit for a 314-H from WHPM. I trayed putting it on last night but im not sure what way the tube that the cable runs threw goes. When I put it the way that it seems like it fits, the bracket the holds the tube doesn't sit flush with to top of the trans. I feel like a fool, but I just want to make sure I get it on correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
kpinnc 11,930 #2 Posted June 7, 2023 Does your cable tube have a distinct curve to it? If so, there is a hole at the forward mounting between the top two tranny bolt holes. The small end of the tube inserts there.
Southern_Secret 463 #3 Posted June 7, 2023 It does have the curve, when I put the tube under the pump and line it up with the hole, the end with the flair is not laying flush ontop of the trans and the bracket is cockeyed. So your saying that the tube goes the that hole, not just line up with it?

Handy Don 12,163 #6 Posted June 8, 2023 Just two quick notes: --the forward end of the tube doesn’t just “line up” with the hole, it wedges into the hole in the transaxle casting (this hole is larger than the hole in the trans plate) --be sure there is no debris along the tube’s path that is preventing it from seating properly
Southern_Secret 463 #7 Posted June 8, 2023 So the end of the tube does go into the hole that's in the bracket in front of the hydro pump?

Fortunately for you I have a parts tractor with the hydro pump/motor removed. 😁 The red arrow points to the hole in the lip of the transaxle. The tube goes INTO that hole. The hole in the plate is slightly smaller, so the tube butts up against the plate. When i put a new tube in one tractor, I used a drift pin through the plate hole and casting hole and got the tube onto the end of the drift pin. That helped me align the tube to the hole and get it in. Be careful not to bend or expand the end of the tube--it is supposed to be a very snug fit and warping the tube will just make you crazy trying to get it in.
Southern_Secret 463 #9 Posted June 8, 2023 I believe you have helped me, i thought the tube just butted up against the hole. That is probably why the other end of the tube, that is suppose to clamp to the top of the trans will not sit flush. I will find out today or tomorrow if that solves my problem.
peter lena 8,583 #10 Posted June 8, 2023 @Southern_Secret don,t forget to lube that tube / cable set up and related connections , works like butter , pete
Handy Don 12,163 #11 Posted June 9, 2023 Regarding @peter lena’s comment above. There are different schools of thought on lubing the cable in that tube. The school that is willing to regularly clean and lube the tube does very well. But that area can accumulate debris when mowing. The school I subscribe to uses a plastic-coated cable without lubrication and all I do is blow out the tube with compressed air whenever the tractor is in the shop once or twice a year.
Southern_Secret 463 #12 Posted June 9, 2023 Issue resolved @Handy Don thank you for your insight, i got home yesterday and it was raining so i could go to the garden, so i worked on the tractor. I got my hand up in there and lined to tube up with the hole, then i took a screw driver and used the handle end and put pressure on it as i wiggled the tube. The tube popped right in the hole no problem, I would have never figured that out on my own cause the instructions dont say anything about it going in the hole. @peter lena I lined the tube and plastic on the cable with a dry graphite powder, and i will be sure to keep it cleaned out for sure.
peter lena 8,583 #13 Posted June 9, 2023 @Handy Don agree with you on that approach to that set up , the fact that you are doing ANYTHING RELATED TO A LOOK SEE , goes a long way , because I frequently respond with a lubricatoin suggestion , is not just putting a glob of lubricant in an area , but doing a movement / functional check for entire related linkage set up . guy I recently sold a horse to , was amaized at how easily things worked , also asked about lubrication staining , when I rubbed that stain into a clean / clear paint finish , he was silent . my upgrades on that horse , will probably , never be looked at again . pete
peter lena 8,583 #14 Posted June 9, 2023 @Southern_Secret just your little added " tweeek " to that area , changed its function , have been doing that for years , I won,t tell anyone that you are doing that , but keep making anything better on your horse , pete
