ebinmaine 67,422 #1 Posted June 7, 2023 It occurs to me this morning that there are six remotes in my living room alone and for some reason my feeble five-year-old mind found that amusing. Roku. Tv. Cd. Multi-disc CD changer. Stereo head unit. Heater. Then I got to thinking about what else there is around and there's at least four or five more between house and shop. At work we even have a remote in one of the semi trucks for the radio which is right there on the dash. Interesting part about that is, it isn't even legal to use the remote anymore because that's considered a handheld electronic device. Unlike the radio itself.

davem1111 2,030 #3 Posted June 7, 2023 The only remotes in our living room are for the ceiling fan and the air conditioner, since we don't have a TV in there. We only have one TV in the house, in the den, and it's an Insignia Fire TV so it only has one remote - no cable or satellite. We do all our watching, which is an average of maybe 1 hour per day, by streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Discovery Plus. I do watch on the computer sometimes using those also, but no remote for that (unless you count a wireless mouse as a remote ). That said, I've been there in the past. I usually try to program one remote to do everything, if possible. Otherwise, it can get crazy.
Handy Don 12,212 #4 Posted June 7, 2023 I’m not sure how many remotes we have. I put them in a safe place and haven’t seen them since... 1

She bought a much more powerful laptop. About all we use the TV for nowadays is an occasional movie or old reruns of science shows like Mythbusters. We sometimes don't even turn our screen or PC on for several weeks.
CCW 1,293 #6 Posted June 7, 2023 Tv in den, awning on the deck, radio in the kitchen, and some more that rarely get used. Maybe ten.
8ntruck 6,998 #7 Posted June 7, 2023 Lots. TV, DVD - multiple of those- car & truck, awning lights on the travel trailer, radio, about 1/2 dozen for Lionel locomotives, radio, and one for an air conditioner. Though that last one is in @Handy Don safe spot. 1

It's right freaking there!!! Just reach out & make your adjustments! Have you ever spent more time looking for a remote than it would have taken to just get up & make the changes that you wanted???? I have, because there are no flippin' buttons on the TV or cable box it's self to make the changes that I wanted. Edited June 7, 2023 by Achto 4

I realize remotes mostly transmit and don't receive, but it has long amazed me that they don't have a beeper on them to help you find them when they are misplaced. Too costly I guess and perhaps the batteries wouldn't be up to the task. Steve
Tractorhead 9,064 #12 Posted June 7, 2023 Most of the remotes play hide and seek with me.... .. and when i find them mostly the Batteries are empty. i hate remotes, beeing old school. i like hard Switches and knobs you can see and the give you a real feedback. My World is Analog. We have several Remotes, but i use them only if urgently needed. 2

ALL remotes should have that.

Wheel-N-It 2,968 #15 Posted June 7, 2023 Two remotes for my adjustable bed, One for each TV (2), one for the sound bar, One for the recliner (no lazy old guy jokes LOL), and some other ones for stuff I don't make time to use.
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #16 Posted June 7, 2023 Just two that I can think of, one for the TV in the living room and one for the tv being used as a computer monitor in my office
JoeM 7,873 #17 Posted June 8, 2023 20 or so years ago my teenage kids tried to convince me to take the battery out of a smoke alarm cause the one in the remote was dead. No! Just thinking, not sure what is more important remote or microwave?

I know this is unconventional thinking for most folks but I almost never use the microwave. In all possible seriousness I think I've probably used mine once or twice a year absolute max. A year or two ago @JCM Jim and his other half were over at the house and I remember wanting to heat up a cup of something for her. Water for tea maybe? Didn't even occur to me that I could use the nuclear box on the counter. I got out a pan and proceeded to use the stovetop. She's looking over in the corner of the room like, why can't we use that? To say she was mildly amused by that would be an understatement. 😂😂

But that is not as much fun as tapping the tuning button on the steering wheel while the wife is tapping the tuning button on the dash, making the radio return to the station it started on. Had her really confused one day - until she caught on to what I was doing .

I've definitely never confused the two of those and befuddled my own self.
