ebinmaine 67,507 #1 Posted June 7, 2023 With any luck I'll have an ultrasonic cleaner in the next couple days. My particular main reason for purchasing one is carburetors. We also have a couple bins full of old nuts bolts and other hardware that will likely make its way in there. As with anything new there's going to be a learning curve. What do you use for fluid? How often do you change the fluid? Are there certain objects or materials that you CANNOT put in there? What other advice or thoughts do you all have?
ri702bill 8,323 #2 Posted June 7, 2023 Eric - I have used a HF cleaner before. A mix of hot tap water and either Simple Green or Purple Power. DO use the heater - cool or cold water does not work as well. You may need to run 2 or more cycles to get the proper results. I use it so infrequently that I toss the liquid when done.... midpack 866 #4 Posted June 7, 2023 I use straight Simple Green in mine. definitely use the heat. rinse the soap off under the tap. let it cool, then pour it back in the bottle for storage. Works fantastic on carb's

oliver2-44 9,753 #6 Posted June 7, 2023 as said before, Purble power works great for nuts and bolts, but no aluminum carbs. Simple Green works, but their might be something better out there. I usually run several cycles
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #7 Posted June 7, 2023 Ran a bunch of nasty crusty Maytag twin parts through mine a while back, used straight full strength Simple Green, worked pretty good. As others have said definitely use the heat
ranger 1,750 #8 Posted June 7, 2023 (edited) If you have smaller components to clean, jets etc, you can save $ by putting them in glass jars with whatever cleaning fluid you choose, rather than sitting loose in the basket. Then fill the tank with plain water instead of cleaning fluid. Drop in the jars and let it do its job. Glass containers work much better than plastic for conducting the ultrasonic vibrations. This way you’re not using/wasting large quantities of cleaner. One thing that is advised against, for cleaning in these machines is, I think, precious/semi precious stones/jewellery. Apparently some can be damaged/destroyed by the vibrations. Also I’ve read that bearings can suffer damage due to the vibes if left in for too long? Pearls I believe, are completely destroyed in an ultrasonic bath? (But this doesn’t bother me, I don’t wear them)! Edited June 7, 2023 by ranger

(But this doesn’t bother me, I don’t wear them) As far as I know neither one of us here even owns any gems pearls etc... Some interesting reading on several websites. NO softer gems. NO "plated" parts including chrome plated anything can go in an ultrasonic cleaner. I can understand why some bearings could be damaged if they're made in layers.
